Smuggling in the Rim

By Englishpete, in X-Wing

So,

I wanted to produce a list that was fluffy and carried a story. Hence I present my Outer Rim smugglers.

We have the bulk transport, the two stealthy high value goods smugglers and the escort flight Y.

The Y can also be used to waylay targets of opportunity.

Outer Rim Smuggler

Saboteur, Anti-Pursuit Lasers

In game terms we have 4 turrets and some fairly tough ships. The slower movement can actually be an advantage and blocking is a viable option. I like saboteur on the YT just for some potential havoc.

I've had success with a similar list. I run two Outer Rim Smugglers with Recon Specialist and Gunner, teamed with a Gold Squadron Y-Wing equipped with an ion turret a proton torp, and R5-D8 in the astromech slot. They get shot up a bit, but every ship is a tank, and like yours they can fire in all directions.

People I know discourage the use of non-maneuverable ships for some reason. I disagree. Turret weapons are wonderful and a great way to counter the lack of mobility.

Flew the list today against a Wedge, Ors and Dutch list. The list won, going down to a showdown between Wedge and the Outer Rim Smuggler, with the Saboteur finishing off Wedge.

I'd fly this again, but I would take a Merc Co-Pilot in replacement for the Anti-Pursuit Lasers, the lasers didn't get used once and the Merc would have kicked in 3 or 4 times.

If I were going to use the outer rim smuggler, I'd try to cram in an intelligence agent and a navigator to be sure to cause as much havoc and overlap as possible. At 33 points, though, its fairly expensive for the actual return you'll get though...

You refer to SableGryphon's Anti-Pursuit list! That's a lot of fun, actually, but I'm uncertain it's the best fit for THIS list

One APL and the FAQ on how they work now doesn't make them optimal in this list. Also, I don't want to spend points on the ORS that require me to cut in other ships.

As is, the list has good balance.
