Battle of Endor: What would you do with 500 points?

By Hrathen, in X-Wing

You have 500 points, don't worry about what you own. Only one of each unique ship/upgrades of course.

(I admit this was inspired from the A-Wing thread)

I would have a crap load of Interceptors, every uniqe pilot that isnt Royal Guard. I would of corse use the R.G.I. upgrade, ptl, daredevil, I cant rember the name but the ability that boosts laser cannon power that is comming in the imp ace. set, expose, marksmen, and stealth device for every TIE Interceptor.

The Baron for sure would have the card I mentioned from Imp Ace. set besides the R.G.I. upgrade, stealth device and expose.

I could just grab everything I own and put it on both sides of the table, but then I would need more like 600 points per side. Or 800 per side if I went max PS and a few upgrades.

Picture this: 41 TIE Fighters.

In all seriousness, I would target 500 points minimum.

On the rebel side, 4 flights of the standard starfighters + Lando at around 500 points:

This should come to 482:

Lando + PtL + Recon Spec + Nien Nunb + MF + Engine + Assault Missiles (61)

Wedge +PtL + Engine Upgrade + R2 +Advanced Proton Torpedoes (43)

Red Squadron x3 (69)

Ten Numb (31)

Ibitsam (28)

Dagger + Advanced Sensors x2 (54)

Tycho + PtL (29)

Arvel

Green Squadron Pilot + PtL x2 (44)

Grey Squadron + Ion x4 (100)

On the Imperial side, lots of TIE Fighters, this should come out to 487

Howlrunner + PtL (21)

Obsidian Squadron x11 (143)

Academy Pilot x4 (48)

Soontir Fel + PtL + RGI + Stealth Device + Targetting Computer (35)

Saber Squadron + PtL x3 (72)

Alpha Squadron x4 (80)

Captain Jonus (22)

Gamma Squadron Pilot + Concussion Missile x3 (66)

So, that's:

1 Millenium Falcon

4 X-Wings

4 B-Wings

4 Y-Wings

4 A-Wings

vs

16 TIE Fighters

8 TIE Interceptors

4 TIE Bombers

Rebels have PS4 and Imperials have PS3, but then the Rebels did win, right?

What's funny, is that's not even quite enough ships for battle with a singe Star Destroyer, let alone the battle of Endor...

I would absolutely love a game this huge. The most I have ships for is about 300 points. I may have to talk to the guys at my FLGS about setting up something this huge

I made up one for each side. Organized by flight groups and overall purpose in the battle from hell. They are as follows:

Rebels:

Flight group 1:

Lando Calrissian (57)

YT-1300 (44), Assault Missiles (5), Flight Instructor (4), Chewbacca (4)

Horton Salm (36)

Y-Wing (25), R5-D8 (3), Proton Torpedoes (4), Blaster Turret (4)

"Dutch" Vander (34)

Y-Wing (23), R5-K6 (2), Proton Torpedoes (4), Ion Cannon Turret (5)

Objective: These guys are going to be sturdy damage dealers, shooting off their secondaries before using turrets and action efficiency to cut a path through the fighting, taking pot shots as they go. Hopefully drawing fire towards their high hull and shields.

Flight group 2:

Kyle Katarn (31)

HWK-290 (21), Blaster Turret (4), Recon Specialist (3), Moldy Crow (3)

Ibtisam (41)

B-Wing (28), Sensor Jammer (4), Heavy Laser Cannon (7), Elusiveness (2)

Blue Squadron Pilot (31)

B-Wing (22), Fire-Control System (2), Heavy Laser Cannon (7)

Blue Squadron Pilot (31)

B-Wing (22), Fire-Control System (2), Heavy Laser Cannon (7)

Objective: Heavy, range three fire support, Kyle will help out with defense and damage, as well as provide cover if things get inside their optimal range and past their arcs. Ibitsam will provide emergency tankiness if things go south.

Flight group 3:

Tycho Celchu (33)

A-Wing (26), Concussion Missiles (4), Push the Limit (3)

Green Squadron Pilot (27)

A-Wing (19), Assault Missiles (5), Push the Limit (3)

Green Squadron Pilot (27)

A-Wing (19), Assault Missiles (5), Push the Limit (3)

Objective: These guys will hunt down and destroy any bomber squadrons present, in their absence they'll target any clustered enemy groups with the assault missiles. They will then switch to a harassing doctrine, peppering anyone otherwise occupied and most likely assisting group 2.

Flight group 4:

Wedge Antilles (32)

X-Wing (29), R2 Astromech (1), Elusiveness (2)

Luke Skywalker (31)

X-Wing (28), Marksmanship (3)

Biggs Darklighter (28)

X-Wing (25), R2-F2 (3)

Garven Dreis (30)

X-Wing (26), R2-D2 (4)

Jan Ors (31)

HWK-290 (25), Ion Cannon Turret (5), Nien Nunb (1)

Objective: The main combat unit, Biggs and Garven try to keep people in the game, Jand boosts offense, Wedge and Luke try for kill shots. Gave the tanky Luke a damage upgrade and the glass cannon Wedge a defense boost so that priority is split and they both might do more damage.

I'll post the imperial one in the morning. I just noticed the time.

40 Academy TIEs

1 Howlrunner + swarm tactics

While it seems impressive on first glance it also means "only" a little more than 2 TF per rebel ship (with the rebel builds posted so far, always like 17 - 20 ships). And 2 TF per Rebel ship will not be enough here, in larger games the rebels do much better with all their support stuff and impressive firepower; guess the +1 points in the TieFighter costs (according to the reverse point calculation someone did TF are 1 point too expensive) shows there ;)

You will loose a whole bunch at once to Assault missile barrage, to start with...

Hmm....

Howlrunner, the other named Obsidian squadron pilots and Obsidian Squadron are a given in my mind.

Also Interceptors and Bombers, but not Fel or Sabers as the 181st wasn't there.

Well, let's see...

Omicron Group Pilot + Engine Upgrade + Fire Control System + Gunner (32) x10 (320)

Omicron Group Pilot + Engine Upgrade + Heavy Laser Cannon + Mercenary Copilot + Mercenary Copilot (36) x5 (180)

I'd start with the Gunner infested bison moving rapidly forward into contact while the mercenary inhabited cows move slowly. Should let me strip shields with the initial volley, then let the HLCs snipe with crits. Have them maneuver independently instead of in formation to reduce the damage from bombs and assault missiles.

It would be a terrifying list to face, though would likely fall against a decent opponent. Either way, I'm certainly losing. Either by having my list destroyed, or winning and then having to tell the Imperial high command what I did with all their shuttles.

20 x Gamma Bomber + homing + seismic ;)

I love big point games. Its really all we play.......
