"That could be cool" vs. "I've actually ran it"

By doc_cthulhu, in Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay

I was just wondering - There are A LOT of fan made scenarios and supplements for each edition of WFRP. I'm curious - how many of you have played/ran something fan-made? What was it and how it went? If you are a GM you could also specify why you did choose to ran the scenario?

Of the dozens of scenarios/supplements out there I have personally only used a handful. I linked only a couple, mostly based on my memory of where to find them.

Curse of the Crimson Pirate was used as a background for one campaign. I had a group of river pirates searching for Crimson Pirate's treasure.

Revenant was a major influence in co-writing the Wanted-scenario of LF8 . As it was presented a lot of material for Ubersreik I also leaned on it heavily while GMing a campaign set in the said city.

Theatre of the Damned was major influence for one session of a campaign where all the characters where a part of a carnival.

Blasphemous Cults 1 was the backbone of a campaign I ran several years ago. It was also the inspiration for my own instalment of the similar style of supplement. My absolute favourite of any WFRP fan-material for a long time.

I have mostly read the Defenders of the Forest and will hopefully have use for it during our next campaign (there will be two wood elves in the party). I'm planning on writing a review on this once I've finished it.

Tool Shed from Liber Fanatica 3 has been in constant used. I've printed it at least five times. The Ex Libris-part is something that a Call of Cthulhu-fan like me couldn't live without.

There also was a Cursed Blades of... document by Sami Uusitalo (iirc) but I cannot remember the name or find it. Hmmm.

(In addition to these I have used various material from Warpstone-magazine.)

So give us your input and keep the fan-material flowing!

I still use the heck out of the pre-generated characters in Liber Fanatica 7 ( and the ones uploaded to RPG geek).

Recently, I've also enjoyed the following:

Dog eat Dog World fan scenario (combined with the old Ravenloft scenario: Howls in the Night

Unfinished Symphony fan scenario from Warpstone. There are lots of handouts that really made this scenario stick well with.

Defenders of the Forest - Liber Fanatica production

One of my players played an animal trainer from LF 7 and another played an Executioner from Liber fanatica 8

I too have been eyeballing Curse of the Crimson Pirate and keep threatening to run it, but haven't yet.

Overall, I enjoy the fan scenarios the most. I cannibalize multiple at the same time for ideas and crossover plots and this has worked well from LF 9.

,..

Liber Fanatica IV 's academic's handbook has been used a couple of times for library hunts and to encourage a more "lovecraftian" view of printed word (if going into woods is menace to life and limb, exploring libraries is dangerous to the soul and sanity - "do not go into the woods" becoming "do not open the book" as is said in "The Mummy").

The Drowning Well adventure was used as part of a campaign with a bit of rewriting (the Return of Krokargh) to provide a wood elf nemesis (also after having read Defenders of the Forest novel, which I liked)

I had adapted Something About Marie to 3rd edition as an interlude in last campaign while travelling but players then went along different set of choices and so didn't use it (likely will still someday, perhaps in this one - particularly as one PC is a new-made Witch Hunter). I switched warpstone dust for Wine of Dreams (I love warpstone but it's a bit too much the go-to all the time).

Oh yea, Something about Marie ran well for our campaign too. I think my one player whose characters die all the time lost another one during that too (and our watchman gained 5 mutations and was lost to becoming a chaos beast).

Good artwork, the cover, that one...

Good times :)

I have used bits and pieces, interesting NPCs and locations, from quite a few fan-made scenarios. A few I would like to point out are Masquerade of Horrors by S. McAnally and C. Campbell, jadrax's Three Gentlemen of Pavonna and Worse than the Disease by Jody Macgregor.

The one-sheets at The Daily Empire have been a source of inspiration.

Jackdays' map of Nuln has been a very useful reference and used extensively.

Also, Warpstone's lists of WFRP names are my go-to source for NPC names.

I would also like to add that all fan material is precious as you never know where you might find inspiration. It could be just one NPC or a short sentence that sparks your imagination. Also, it has,for a long time, been a way for WFRP community to share their passion for this setting and each entry adds to that.

P.S. Doc, you can actually find Forbidden Blades on your site ;)

I'm going with "I knew this all along and only wanted to promote it"-approach.
