Star Wars Attack Squadrons Beta

By drylndsurf, in X-Wing

Just an FYI to some people that might be interested, they have joystick mapping in the game now, was playing around with my x-box controller in the game so you should be able to use any modern USB input for your wants now. Its starting to shape up since last I played. Still a bit slow for my taste, non cannon upgrades, and both teams have mixed squadrons. The ships do have their own feel to them now, which is nice, before it felt like the same thing in a different skin. Still wished it flew like PS2 or SWTOR star fighter, they have much cleaner feeling to dog fighting.

Oh my god this game is fun.

Crabbok said basically all you need to know, and I can't really say too many details.

BUT OH GOD THE PAINT JOBS. XWMG PAINTERS

YOU BETTER PLAY IT

IF JUST FOR THE PAINTJOBS. Rodent mastermind, falsehood, others, you guys. you guys need to do these paintjobs because holy CRAP they are just... JUST AWESOME.

I can't wait for this game to go open so I can post about it ALL the time. It's just so -fun-. The first dedicated star wars flying game we've had since Rogue Squadron II.

SINCE ROGUE SQUADRON II.

Just on that merit alone it deserves your time. Because this is them putting their foot in the water. If this succeeds, you can guarantee another X-Wing game. It's no flight sim, but it IS fun and hooooly crap is it a battle of the wits. You CAN win by outsmarting your foe.

And that is extremely important. You don't win because your ship is better. You win because YOU were better.

And that's how every game should be.

Lackwit, what's your handle? I'm Ar-Phanad. Maybe I'll see you around this week. I wish it was more of a flight sim and less of an arcade game, but I'll take what I can get. You're spot on about the paint jobs, though. A lot of them are goofy, but I will be using this as a resource to finish painting my own fleet.

My handle is precisely what you'd expect it to be! CaptainLackwit.

I prefer to fly the Y-Wing and TIE Fighter. The X-Wing and I aren't horribly friendly yet. Some goofier paintjobs have occurred but the imperial ones -generally- take the cake in badassery.

oh joysticks work by the way it just takes a lot of finicky work to get the controls right.

I really want to get on to this, but it doesn't seem to want to let me in :(
