The moment I buy a supplement...

By Castlecruncher, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

... FFG releases something new.

When I bought the GM kit, I found out the same day they'd released Enter the Unknown, and I didn't have the cash to get it.

When I did get the cash and bought it, they announce The Jewel of Yavin the same day.

So I guess my problem is...

WHY DOES FFG ALWAYS RELEASE A NEW SUPPLEMENT THE MOMENT I BUY THE OLD ONE?!?

I mean, I'm happy to have supplements, but it does strain my pitiful cash flow.

I'm limiting myself to the sourcebooks. As much as I'd love to buy the adventures as well, they're too costly.

because you are not part of us 1%'ers so you are SOL

If your game will benefit for having the books sooner than you can afford them get your players to chip in and help. Charge a $1-2 a session book fee if it helps, around here that isn't even a coffee.

My biggest issue isn't with the cost, but rather the availability of the books and the x-wing miniatures. Any one would think that Australia is the Outer Rim of the of the universe. Heck the books are getting to Tantooine faster. :D

I hear Miniatures Market runs their stuff through a decent smuggler, the smuggler the folks at FFG use are related to a Hutt or teh Sith Lord Darth Drongo. I hear the MM Smuggler he can do the Kessel run in 14 Parsecs, so the Aussie run in under 21 would be an achievement.

Or he might be the kind of smuggler who drops his shipment at the first sign of an Imperial cruiser!

ive never had to buy my gm books and ive purchased my books as they were available. I would however try and find a way to buy books that you need. Sometimes you need to find a oddjob

I've set myself a gaming budget, and sacrificed a lot of other things in order to make sure it remains. I can't afford conventions or anything over the summer months, but as the books I want are released, I usually have the funds to pick them up.

So far it has been the core rule book that has been released in July(?) Beyond the Rim that was release in September and Enter the Unknown in December... That is not too bad is it? One hardback every two or three months... Next up Suns of Fortune which will probably be released in januari so that would make it an average of 1 book every two months, books that cost $30 or $40 Retail but can be obtained way cheaper through the usual channels. So, on average, you are looking at $15 a month so far if you want to have everything.

That hardly seems unreasonable. Of course people not only play EotE and they spend money on other games as well but I think their release schedule is too slow for my taste... :)

Amanal makes a very solid suggestion: have the players chip in. Get the group to buy a copy of every book that they can all use, but that the GM gets to own. I feel that the GM invests the most time and money in a campaign anyway, so I don't see why players couldn't contribute in some way.

This is true... I own all books in the Saga edition line, all 4th ed books and now I am getting all books in EotE again... My pleasure just hop onboard for the (free)ride.

Need vs. Want.

I budget, and save small amounts of money over time, so that I can get what I want. If it means foregoing a box of beer or a social drink here and there, I make the call. What I would have spent on renting a movie, or buying a coffee I tuck away in a secret, wife proof corner of my gaming bag and when the time comes, there it is. Ready to spend on something that I will value.

It helps that FFG gives us all of the notice in the world as to upcoming products, so there shouldn't be any surprise when they are released.

Budget...

I quit drinking altogether almost 3 years ago. Amazing how much "extra" money one has when they drop a vice. But seriously, set aside $4 a week for books and one should be fine. If your situation is to tight for that, odd job it.

I'm glad they give us a heads up though. Makes it so much easier.

I set aside $200 per paycheck (every two weeks) into a secondary account that covers my fun money. Books, movies, video games, junk food, etc. Sure, I can always tap my main account, but then I have to justify the purchase with the wife. The release schedule for EotE doesn't come close to straining me, but trying to keep up with Pathfinder and the WH40K lines at the same time was too much.

I have a little less than $150 per month to split between entertainment and food. I don't always make the right call on that front, but it lets me get something new every so often.

Like I said, the sourcebooks have greater value to me than the adventures, but for you it might be the other way around. In that case, I'd say just save a little more.

I was having the opposite problem before Enter the Unknown came out; I wanted ANY KIND OF SUPPLEMENT, lol. We really played the Core Rulebook to the friggin' hilt... which was fun! I haven't done that in a number of years.

there will probably be at least 30 books in this product line before the whole deal is done. you should curl up with your wallet in a fetal position now and have a little "me" time before the next announcement. cheers.
