Developing List: Blue Garnet Cannon

By Rakky Wistol, in X-Wing

I can't believe it either but I finally made a Rebel list worth posting.

Roark + Ion Cannon

Blue + HLC

Blue + advanced sensors

Blue

A similar list slayed me today on Vassal, ad a rookie with an R-2 and split the advanced sensor and HLC on a single bwing. I think the third Bwing is just nastier.

This is the first list I've really see that uses a Hwk well. Doesn't load up on points and abuses the shoot first power of Roark. 29 hp's is rough to get through. One Bwing sniper with 2 blockers and any one of them able to finish off any opponent before shooting is impressive. Roark just supplies his effect, draws a little fire, and occasionally Ions something.

I'm tempted to keep advanced sensors on the HLC bwing but I think splitting it up spreads the points and options well enough.

Im interested to see it in action. More and more recently I'm finding people seem to be flying the HWK ( Roark, Jan )naked or almost simply as a support ship and it can be quite effective.

They are generally ignored in this capacity and left to keep doing their thing. I've yet to decide the best approach to this type of squad, ignore it or hit it.

I've been putting a HWK in a lot of casual games rather than just an extra rookie and it's been OK. Certainly not the same firepower. With Roark you get to use his ability every single round (until they kill him) so I feel like I always get my points out of him. Jan has a bit of a target on her as she's more points, usually stressed, and improving another ship by 50-25%. Roark just doesn't generate that much hate, especially with just the lowly Ion cannon.

As far as flying against it, I think if it's Jan you have to make her a priority target. This list is certainly win/win for the person flying Roark. Bwings are really good on their own so not having him isn't a big deal and just means there's 24 hp still running around shooting 3-4 dice. Against this list I would take down at least one Bwing to limit firepower before turning on Roark.

What do ya'll think about where to put advanced sensors? Spread the upgrades or load one up?

I would almost pull the HLC to put advanced sensors on all the blues.

Agreed. Although I just got done advocating the viability of the HLC's this example shows that on a case by case basis there can be better options for a given list. In fact I think I'm going to add this list (with AS on all the B's) to my list of things to try. Sounds fun.

I feel the Hawk is such a great suport craft that is a mush have in every Reb fleet esp with the Moldy Crow upgrade.

All Advanced Sensors did cross my mind and might end up being a better list overall. I hadn't seen the HLC used enough and though this could be a place where it worked pretty well. Having a 4 dice with TL or Focus at any range getting to shoot before ANYONE in the game is pretty powerful, though I often found myself using Roark's ability on one of the blockers who was going to get shot at to ensure they had their round of shooting first.

If there is ever a cheaper BWing pilot with an EPT who can take Swarm tactics, this list could get nasty fast.

Decimated an imperial list with this today. I wan sold on HLC for one of them but using the other 3 ships as interference made this list awesome.

Of note: the advanced sensor Bwing has been first man down every time (3 matches). HLC bwing is solid. To ahead and fly Roark aggressively.

Mixing in Biggs wouldn't be a bad idea either. 99 points, so yo have 1 point left over for a droid on Biggs:

Biggs (25)

Blue + Advanced Sensors (25) x2

Roark + Ion (24)

Pretty sure I've faced that exact squad before. I think the extra 3 hp on a third blue is still the way to go.
