Huge Ships

By R22, in X-Wing

The YT-1300 and Slave I both introduced title cards. So they can be any ship of that type or THE ship via the title card. Given this system, do you think the Blockade Runner and Transport will include alternate pilot/ships? For instance, the Blockade Runner could have Captain Antilles and a Tantive IV title card. The transport could have a Bright Hope title card. But what other ship/pilots could there be for either? I know for the Blockade Runner there were a number of other named ships of that type.

What would be AWESOME is if the Tantive IV now (or later) had a 'Nightcrawler' card that worked as an Imp ship and had a Rebel version since it was captured by Wedge and Wraith Squadron. One pilot could be the pilot for Wedge's crew and another could be Apwar, the Imp captain they stole it from. They could even release those plates later and it would still be awesome.

The Masanya is another CR90 ship name I remember, I know there are more. I just have a hard time seeing it being just the Tantive IV title card and Capt Antilles. So what else could there be?

The transport is different since I know it says "Rebel Transport" on the box so maybe not the transport. But the Blockade Runner says Tantive IV specifically, just like the Slave 1 includes the Slave 1 and 'other' ships of the same model.

Related question, would people be interested in seeing Huge ship expansions that had pilot cards for both factions? Seems fair and markets it to both sides, plus you'd add it to Cinematic play. Everybody assumes there will be an alternate ship for Imps, but why not have huge ships that have pilots and title cards for both?

I wouldn't mind seeing ships that work for both, especially some of the bounty hunters/ scoundrels. I do want a star destroyer though

How big do you want your Star Destroyer to be? Because:

I hope you have a lot of room to play. It's going to be a big model. Really big. That or ridiculously out of scale. The Rebel Transport and Tantive IV are slightly off the scale, but look great. But we are talking more than an an order of magnitude here.

YES! When I make big ships, I've always made my selections based on which factions used what. I chose the DP20 because it was a popular ship for rebels, imps, and pirates. Same goes for the CR90. The customs corvette is an exception, I guess.

You named 3 of the 4 ships I know of. I'll add any others I find that are identified from the movies. Title cards for each that take the specific roles they played into account would add more depth to scenarios.

GR-75 transports: Quantum Storm and Bright Hope from ESB with Toryn Farr as a pilot and Luminous from RoTJ. Both of these were available in the Decipher CCG.

CR-90 corvettes: Tantive IV from ANH and Masanya from RoTJ, also in the Decipher CCG.

I also like the idea of having titles/pilots that allow the ship to be used for either faction. That would be also add some interesting mission/scenarios.

Example: Transport could have a title for each faction using the same name, and pilots for each. Start the mission with the Imperial title and pilot. The rebels have to use Y-wings/B-wings to disable the ship, the YT-1300 docks with it to capture. Once captured the title and pilot is swapped for the rebel version. To complete the mission the rebels have to fly the transport off the battlefield before the defending Imperial forces destroy it, assuming they were not wiped out in the battle.

Personally I dont want a Star Destroyer it will be way to out of scale but an Interdictor or something like that would be amazing. Tons of scenarios come to mind with that ship. Although that is a little off topic I do hope that there are unique pilot cards for the big ships. I also plan on painting names on the side of the corvettes I get. Probably gonna get 2.

I never noticed this before ... are those tracks you see at the ceiling of the hangar bay to slide in the launching ramps for the TIE Fighters?

Right star destroyer I was thinking a smaller class like a victory or clone wars style destroyer. Not imperial.

They look to me like they are the trcks for the docking claw. Once the claw is retracted, I'm sure the tracks could be used for anything like, picking apples and space slugs.

Docking claws! Of course. This makes me wonder how Tie Fighters land.... by hitting the docking claws again? ... sounds like more dangerous than landing on an aircraft carrier ^^

I wonder if a tractor beam would be useful in docking ties. They pulled the Falcon in to DS1 that way.

The circle is now complete.

Even VSD's are 900m long, or about 6 times as long. So even to scale with the CR-90 it would still be a bit over 6 feet long.

Yeah, there are some options, they just are not Star Destroyers, not VSDs, not ISDs, not SSDs etc.

I would love to see a capital scale game perhaps. Maybe a totally different mechanic all together (not flightpath at all) for huge scale capital ship engagements.

A Battlefleet Gothic scale + rules would be a better fit for ISD and ships that huge.
