Wave 4 Speculation

By TheRealStarkiller, in X-Wing

The Ghtroc 720 looks like a sea tutrtle. I don't like it. It would most likely function like a YT, which we already have.

I don't like this sentiment. It *should* fly similar. All similar ships should fly similar. This is exactly what I meant when I said this game is a board game and not a war game.

Question, would people rather see Erisi Dlarit as an Imperial pilot? TIE/Int. Maybe she'd get a free focus action against X-wings since she's familiar with them.

Also, what about the Pulsar Skate and Mirax Terrik as a Rebel ship? Granted I think it's ugly as sin.

...Sometimes I wish Garven had a pilot skill that said "Face up damage cards only apply if they affect the engines." Nyuk.

Similarly, I wouldn't like to fly a ship that looks like a giraffe. Fighters, guns, torpedoes... smells like war to me. :P

If the YT1300 and the tortoise handle similarly, cool. If they both had turrets, :( .

I have said this elsewhere, but I cannot get enough of this fun speculation game!

From a symmetry perspective (which may or may not be valid as a basis for guessing) I predict the 'Large" ships will be evened out, numbers-wise (i.e. only the Rebels will get one in Wave 4). I further predict that the Imperials will get access to another ship allowing crew member upgrades (probably a bounty hunter)

Rebels

YT-2400 "Outrider" (Large) -- I like the sound of 180 degree turret and barrel roll (a bit smaller, more agile, cheaper, less dangerous "Falcon"). Very iconic; one of the last obvious choices, in my opinion.

Z-95 Headhunter (Small) -- adds a cheap option to Rebels, sounds like a nice game changer. Too much to like here.

Imperials

TIE/D Defender (Small) -- simply looks too cool and different (while still being SW-esque) to pass up. Another game changer; a shielded, hyperspace capable, elite (and most expensive!) Imperial craft. The Avenger looks too much like the Interceptor to bother with, in my opinion.

G-1A "Mist Hunter" (Small) -- bounty hunters Zuckuss and 4-Lom. A small, crew upgrade capable craft, a la the Rebel HWK-290.

Just a thought, but I think the 2400 would do well with a front 180 degree firing arc. Rebels have too many turret weapons already.

My mistake. That is what I meant. A fixed to the front 180 arc, not a 360 degree turret.

Oops! you did say that! I must have skimmed over it. My bad.

I like all of this and think it makes sense. I would like to see IG-2000 or Punishing One instead of Mist Hunter. IG-2000 could be an excellent combat ship. Really want to see Hound's Tooth at some point as well.

But really I just want some info from FFG. Anything. Really. ANYTHING. This whole month has gone by basically and we have nothing to chew on.

Fleet Ship stats / Epic rules / Cinematic Rules / Rebels Aces / Wave 4 / ANYTHING! Please.

Love the game.

I don't thing FFG cares about symmetry. The bottom line is game balance, not that ohh sides have the same pieces. They've home out of there way to make sure droids and turrets are Rebel only and bombs are Imperial only. Shields, boosts, barrel rolls and torpedoes are fairly one sided as well. So why should they care that both sides have the same number of large ships?

So why should they care that both sides have the same number of large ships?

I don't know for sure but there may be issues of shelf space and stocking to consider. I don't know how many decisions would be made based on how the product line looks on the game store shelf and/or physically makes its way through distribution channels...one part marketing and one part logistics?

No idea if that sort of thing plays into the thought process.

I also wonder if there is a tilt in the sales number either for Rebels or for Imperials. One faction may sell more than the other. That must be true in some small way, as people will very likely buy more TIE/ln models than they will Y-Wings, for instance.

I personally collect both factions, but I could see some fans choosing one over the other.

All these nuances and more might (might!) have a bearing on the decisions of what to release.

So why should they care that both sides have the same number of large ships?

They don't really... They only care about selling the models they produce. Just so happens that large ships sell for more and I would assume make a slightly better profit per unit. Although I'd guess that Tie Fighters made them the most money over all, considering how many people have 6+ of those.

The fact that the Imp's got a large ship in Wave 3 and the Reb's didn't is because they wanted to add in some support type ships. Their options for doing that were pretty limited, so the Imps got the Shuttle, and the Reb's got the Crow.

The fact that the Shuttle was large I don't think factors into it at all.

But that doesn't mean they won't make a new large ship for the Reb's in Wave 4. In fact I'd be a but surprised if we didn't see another YT type ship.

That must be true in some small way, as people will very likely buy more TIE/ln models than they will Y-Wings, for instance.

I would guess it's about even, perhaps a bit in favor of the Reb's.

For everyone who buys 6+ TIE/ln's, you have someone who only buys 1 maybe 2 TIE/Ad.

As of Wave 2 you had the following ships in what I'd guess to be the avg numbers per person.

4 X-Wings

4 Y-Wings

4 A-Wings

2 YT-1200

14 ships per person

7 Tie Fighters

1 Tie Advanced

4 Tie Interceptors

2 Firespray 31

14 ships per person

Now add in Wave 3.

4 B-Wings

2 HWK-290

For a total of 20 ships.

4 Tie Bombers

1 Shuttle

For a total of 19 ships.

Now I could be wrong about those numbers... But I see a lot of people talk about 2+ HWK lists, but few people talking about 2+ Shuttle lists.

Actually, I'm not sure there should be a rush. I'd rather them not say ANYTHING till they are almost ready to ship. I'd rather they don't even announce a new *whatever* till the product is on the boat already - then we can buy it not too long after they spoil it. In all honesty, they have enough ships out, I'd be OK if they didn't add anything new till they got caught up with stock on the existing ships. Instead of new models while restocking, if they kept the game night stuff going and the tournament scene fresh that would be plenty, IMO.

I agree with your points. There are alot of ships and demand does need to be satisfied for the earlier releases. The only point I differ on is the "short" sort of turn around concept. I personally like to see what is coming down the road. It keeps the forums fresh and makes the community a little stronger for everyone to have things to talk about and look forward too IMHO.

Also I think releasing some rules and stuff for the big ships and stats for them would be fun. Give us something to chat about.

Wow. If you're going to look at number it should be clear there are more Imperial ships out there than there are Rebels. I mean how often do you see a battle where the Empire is outnumbered by the Rebellion? The player who has bought "one of everything" will have one more Imperial ship than Rebel ship, thank you starter, but I suspect the average fight sees the rebels outnumbered by more than one ship.

My suspicion is that the random person likes to collect Rebel ships more. Don't have anything to back that up, however.

Imperial collectors have more ships, I think you are correct.

Are there more Rebel collectors than Imperial collectors, however?

That answer is key to the relative sales volumes.

To be fair, Imps probably have to come close to 1.5 times more ships than Rebels (straight up TIE/ln vs X-Wing is 2:1), so the preference of collectors for Rebels in general would have to be that strong to re-balance the numbers.

Probably not likely. Maybe?

I loved the Ghtroc 720, it is a versitile ship. It would probably play about the same as the YT 1300.. but it would be a unique shape on the play surface, that is for sure..

i think we will be seeing the Tie Phantom, since they seem to be drawing from the classic era video games like dark forces. The Tie phantom was a beautiful design and would fit in beautifully. The Z-95 has been a staple of the EU since the han solo trilogy, the first one that is, allot of ppl dont realize the ship is actually that old. So i think well see that as well. The outrider is a no brainer, and that ship was also included in a new hope the special edition. So i think those 3 are safe bets. As for the fourth, my guess would be either the hounds tooth or the lady luck as both have appeared in clone wars and are classic era ships. Now they may throw us a curve ball and give us the Tie Defender or the Tie Avenger. But i think were going to be seeing the Phantom, the Z-95, the Outrider, and the Houndstooth or Lady Luck.

Depends on if they make the z-95 imperial or rebel, my moneys on rebel. But its all speculation right now. I would love to see the Skipray blast boat. But we will have to wait and see.
