Rebel Swarm

By coolfishboy, in X-Wing

So here is my rebel swarm, any changes you would make?

Wanted to try a five ship rebel list, that stands a chance

Prototype pilot (A-wing)

Prototype pilot (A-wing)

Gold Squadron Pilot (Y-wing)

Ion cannon turret

Blue Squadron Pilot (B-wing)

Rookie Pilot (x-wing)

Attack dice-12(13-ion cannon turret)

Hull-15

Shields-14

Total-29

So same hitting power as 4 x-wings, but more at range 1 etc, and a lot of hull/shields to hang around

sooo what do you think?

A different swarm was in the top 8 at Worlds: 2x Rookie, 1x Blue, 2x Gold.

hmmmm I only have 1 gold tho lol

If you go for a swarm list keep upgrades at a minimum.

Prototype Pilot (17)
Prototype Pilot (17)
Blue Squadron Pilot (22)
Blue Squadron Pilot (22)
Blue Squadron Pilot (22)

This is probably extreme dropping all upgrades but does give:

13 dice

32 hull points.

Hmm good idea on that list, would drop 1 b-wing for a x-wing tho... Unless i can buy one more b-wing at some Point lol

3 Prototype Pilot

2 Blue Squadron with Fire Control System

99 Points.

I don't get it. Rebels keep beliving they have a swarm if they manage to squeesh 5 ships in a list :P

When clearly a swarm is six!

Rebel Operative x6

From a military point of view, a swarm is a formation of 4 planes.

So if you field 2 x 4 Tie Fighters, you have 2 swarms in play ^^

lol so 1 rebel swarm :P

How about

Prototype Pilot

Rookie Pilot

Gold Squadron Pilot

Blue Squadron Pilot

Blue Squadron Pilot

I flew a rebel swarm in a tournament last Sunday and placed second. I lost the last game primarily due to a mis maneuver on my part on the initial exchange (only had 76% of my attack dice versus 100% of his) and very, very cold dice. The other games I did very well, removing my opponent completely from the board before the other matches suffered a single loss (one game I had 40 minutes left).

My Swarm:

Blue X2

Rookie

Gold

Prototype

I like this one since it gives 3 pilots with a 3 attack and 32 HPs. A squad with two A-Wings concerns me as I feel their defense dice are too swingy. I also like having a Y-Wing in there as you end up with a high HP target for your enemy to chew through at the end of the match when his best guns have been destroyed.

That being said, I think all of these are viable lists, even the one with the Ion cannon turret (which I think could be very, very fun, it will take enemies down slower, but disrupt formations nicely).

I ran the rebel swarm that made the top 8. The reason I didn't use A wings was because it was too dependent on dice and I wanted ships that could just take a beating. Another reason is A wings don't stick well with the rest of the squad. My YYXXB could stick together welland bring all their firepower to bear on the same target. Finally I wanted to present my opponent with the choice of taking a great shot on a Y Or a worse shot on the X. A's didn't provide that buffer in the front. Those was my thoughts when I ran it at worlds.

I think i need to get hold of a second y-wing, dam lack of stock lol

Should be resolved very soon, though. The Xs and ADVs land today, and the Y and TIEs are in a week or so.

Ha...I just pretended that FFG ever hits a ship date on time.

Ha yer mistake

my rule is

release date then add 3 months then it might be around lol

The other FFG rule is: It's probably out of inventory.

Lol maybe it should just be world rule for ffg

I think you can call it a swarm if you forgo These three things - any expensive ships, including any named pilots or even bounty hunters. - almost all upgrades 1 or two upgrades in the whole list. It is about sacrificing pilot skill, and other expenses to get as many ships as you can.

Under that definition a six man TIE Squadron where all the ships are named pilots does not count as a swarm. But 4 X's and an A would.

AABBB

BAXAY (with ion cannon turret on the Y), the most fun to pronounce

AAAAYT (with gunner on the Outer Rim Smuggler)

are the ones I tried so far, and they're all very potent. The imperial player doesn't expect this level of damage management and 1-hull surviving ships that come back for the finishing move.
