As the campaign moves into its third week, the Empire has a firm grip on the Core systems, and it has been revealed that construction of a new Death Star is being carried out in a remote sector. [The Death Star adds 2 to the Imperials' score, and can be fought over like any other sector. If another faction ever gains enough net wins to control it, the Death Star will be destroyed and its value (2) will be permanently added to the victor's score. The Rebels' Hidden Base works the same way.]

The Rebels have a strong presence in the outer territories, launching raids from their hidden base and testing the Imperial defenses. The border sectors are hotly contested.

A new power has emerged -- the Black Sun criminal organization. Prince Xizor has created a vast fleet of smugglers, pirates and bounty hunters, promising them worlds of their own after the war in exchange for their allegiance today. Early victories in the Bajic Sector and Senex-Juvex Region demonstrate Black Sun's formidable strength. [You can now fight on behalf of the Black Sun, allowing for more variety in your scenarios, including mirror matches and three-way battles. See the new faction rules in the UXGC Rules PDF .]

Want to join the campaign? It's easy! It's all explained on the campaign map , and you can check the UXGC Rules PDF for more details.

Since the last update, I went through Wookieepedia sector by sector to gather more details and get things closer to canon. A few changes to the campaign map were made as a result. This doesn't affect the campaign in any important way, which is now very much in the players' hands with more than 25 games reported.
Corellia is now called Corellian Sector.
Commenor is now called Rachuk Sector.
Coruscant is now called Corusca Sector.
Malastare is now called Dustig Sector.
Sullust is now called Brema Sector.
Yag'Dhul is now called Givin Domain.
Chommel is now spelled Chommell.
Kastalar is now spelled Kastolar.
Moyogil is now spelled Mayagil.
Roioballo is now spelled Raioballo.
Wyll is now spelled Wyl.
The value of Farlax Sector has been reduced from 2 to 1.
The value of Raioballo Sector has been increased from 1 to 2.
The value of Tapani Sector has been increased from 1 to 2.
For the "Deploy Fleet" achievements, a faction will need to have an unbroken chain of 6 or more connected sectors at the end of a phase, instead of the previous requirement of 4 sectors.

How are you thinking the black suns will work? Firesprays and a mix of other ships?

It's entirely up to you.

The 3 B-Wings dropped out of Hyperspace and took the 4 Tempest pilots by suprise. The Tempest squadron looked to evade and gain position, but there was nowhere to hide. Tempest 3 went down in a hail of fire, closely followed by 1 and 4.

Tempest 3 fled the field (I conceded) badly damaged to report the rebel success in a sector very close to Imperial dominated space.

"This is Dagger 1 to base. All resistance quashed. System secured, no losses, jump in the landing parties. One out."

Imperial forces had located a refinery on a remote world in the Corellian Sector that had been supplying starship fuel (through intermediaries) to the Rebels. Despite the fact that the world had declared itself "neutral" in the current rebellion, it was decided to set an example of the cost for such complicity. A strike team was assembled and dispatched to destroy the facility.

The refinery complex actually consisted of two parts: a Control Center, housed in a tall, tower-like building and the Refinery itself. Both were protected by shield generators housed in the Control Center. Resistance was expected but not considered to be a major threat to the mission's success.

The attackers approached in two groups. One consisted of the Strike Commander ("Mauler" Mithel) + a wing-man from Obsidian Squadron; this group targeted the Control Center with the goal of disabling the shield generators. The other group consisted of the Bombers and their TIE Fighter escorts; their target was the Refinery itself.

The opposition was a small group of Rebels who answered the distress call; they also fought in two groups. Group 1 (Red Squadron X-wings) defended the Control Center and its shield generators. Group 2 (a single Y-wing from Gold Squadron) protected the Refinery.

The two forces closed at max speed, attempting to get within weapons range as soon as possible. As soon as they were in range, the Bombers Target Locked the refinery but before the could launch their missile, the defenders played their "ace card" and activated a powerful sensor jammer, that prevented ALL Target Locks in the area! The attackers switched to guns and commenced strafing runs on their targets. With the attackers focusing on ground targets, the defending fighters had free shots, and managed to "splash" a Bomber before it could dispose of its ordnance. In the chaos that followed, the refinery took a beating from lasers and seismic charges but the shields kept regenerating until the Imperial Strike Commander destroyed the Control Center, its jammer and generators. With the shields disabled, the remaining Bomber destroyed the Refinery just moments before crashing into its ruins! The Rebels then exacted their revenge, eliminating the remaining attackers. "Mauler" Mithel almost made it to safety but was killed attempting to escape.

Both factions achieved their mission goals (destruction of the Refinery and elimination of all attacking enemies) but the Rebels still maintained a fighting force, so they claimed the morale/propaganda victory (however Pyrrhic it may have been).

Chris

Got it, Chris, thanks!

I had an idea for the campaign.

If you play a specific scenario in a specific system that matches the star wars saga (movie, books or games) you get an additional point for the win. (not campaign a point, just one point more to take over the system.)

For example if you play the trench run from episode 4 with Luke and Vader and other characters over the Death Star sector the winner gets +1. Or you play Han+Chewie+Luke on the milennium falcon against ties in a movie specific environment. Or you recreate any battle mentioned i one of the books. If you don't have the named pilots just be sure to use the right fighter crafts and scenario missions.

What do you think?

Yeah, I've been thinking about a "scenario of the week" kind of thing, which would just be a fun option. I may or may not set them in specific sectors, but giving an extra "win" for playing the scenario of the week seems like a great reward. Great idea. Cheers.

After the disastrous refinery raid earlier, Imperial Intelligence deduce that they had a Rebel spy within their ranks. Suspects were rounded up and interrogated. The amount of valuable intel gained this way was limited but another use was found for their prisoner- Bait! The Imperial Navy had decided to use the Rebel captive in a gambit to lure in and ambush Rebel forces operating in the area. To that end, the prisoner was loaded on board a shuttle for transfer to a rather notorious Imperial prison facility in another system. The shuttle's flight plans were then "leaked" to the Rebels in hopes that they would take the bait. Elements of the elite 181st IFW would then pounce on the unsuspecting Rebels and either kill or capture them. With luck, they might be able to bag some of the "criminal" leaders.

The shuttle, transporting the Rebel Captive and two escorting TIE fighters would be travelling near the local asteroid belt and act as bait. The Rebels would likely use these asteroids to approach their prey unseen. The Imperial "Hunter" group would also make use of these same asteroids to conceal their presence until it was time to spring their trap.

As predicted, the Rebels attacked from out of the asteroids and pounced upon their prey, focusing their attacks on the shuttle in an effort to either free the Rebel Captive or ensure that he never lived long enough to reveal any secrets. Their ambush appeared to be going well, when suddenly, another group of imperial fighters arrived to tip the scales against them.

Baron Soontir Fel, commander of the 181 IFW chose to lead the "Hunter" group personally. His knowledge and experience enabled him to time his attack just right, not too soon and not too late. Waiting until the Rebels were committed to their attacks, Fel and his "Hunters" sprung their trap, taking their foes completely by surprise. Victory was all but assured, all it would take was time.

The Rebels suddenly found themselves out numbered, out gunned and out fought; they could not hope to last long against these odds. Forsaking their own safety, they concentrated all their efforts on bringing down that shuttle! The Rookie pilot "Mynok-2" was first to meet his fate, going out under a hail of laser fire from the Baron and his wing-mate. But his sacrifice was not in vain, as the shuttle was soon destroyed whaen its panicked pilot flew it straight into an asteroid. Mission accomplished but escape problematic. "Mynok-3" made a fatal error and was cut down moments before he could make his escape. "Mynok-1", despite being injured and piloting a severely damaged X-wing, managed to get clear and make the jump to lightspeed .

Victory points were determined by enemy ships killed (double points for shuttle) plus own ships points for each Rebel ship that managed to escape. Victory thus went to the Rebels as they destroyed their target (Shuttle) and managed to exit one X-wing, despite losing their other two ships. One Hit would have reversed the result but the forces of the Empire were denied the victory in a very close game.

The Imperials fought back, taking out Skywalker first. The Imperial bombers got off their bombs and missiles but to little effect. Ibtisam sacrificed herself to take out the last Imperial bomber. As the last two eyeballs were chasing and killing Wedge, Chewie stormed back into the fight. Command to Black Squadron....we have reports of activity of wanted terrorist Chewbacca and a few heavy rebel fighter scum on the border of the Corellian System. Scramble your veteran fighters and take them all out.

The trol....I mean ties setup in two groups of 4, with the rebels in the middle. The rebels started turning away to try and get behind the center asteroid cluster, but the Ties decended on them too quickly in T2, taking a few shields off the BW. The Ties continued their barrage, obliterating the BW before he could fire and stripping some shields off Chewy, while only taking a few hits in return (ex: Chewy rolled 3 hits and 1 crit on a damaged Tie, but with 2 evades, and DTF, he survived). On T4, Chewy tried to elude the swarm, but veteran Ties had his number, and with 7 shots lined up on him he quickly fell. After that is a was cleanup to focus fire the remaining 2 golds turning away from the swarm. In the end the rebels were wiped out, with Black Squadron not taking a single loss.

Black 10 to Command....all rebel craft have been eliminated. Mission Successful. Returning to base. Oh and command, we are pleased to report that Black Squadron has suffered no casualties, you can tell the funeral team to stand down.

Command to Saber Squad Tetra...as of 5 minutes ago, we have gotten reports of a Black Sun raid on one of our production facilities on Correllia. They have stolen two heavily modified prototype fighters, and even have the audacity to use the security codes of the Empire's greatest pilots to bypass the planet's defense systems. Do not let them escape by any means necessary.

The sabers deployed in a spread out formation, with the two advanced and BH on the far left. The two sabers on the left did a stalling action, while the 3 towards the right got in a concave formation to attack on the following turn. On T2, Vader was able to 1-shot a saber with his missile, while Maarek whiffed and only did a hit to the other one. The sabers fired back and stipped Vader's stealth and 2 shields, while peeling off a sheild from the BH. The BH also was barely within range of a single saber, and took two hull off. T3 saw the sabers evade the two advance's arcs, and focus on the BH. However, they could only bring him down a 4 hull. T4 got very interesting. The Sabers had to pull off quite a bit of fancy flying to avoid the Seismic charge and asteroid, and got 3 fighters in postion on the BH. However, Vader came around and finished off a damaged fighter. The highlight of the game was a k-turning Maarek vs a Saber in R1 of each other. Maarek got a crit through onto the saber, and took away PTL with his ability (doh). However, the Saber was pissed, got 3 hits and a crit, Maarek whiffed all 4 green dice, and got 1-shot when he pulled a direct hit card for the critical. Ah, Maarek, poor guy can't catch a break. The two sabers were able to finish off the BH before he could shoot. Several turns later, the two Sabers were able to finish off Vader while being able to just stay alive.

Saber squad to command, mission accomplished. We are heading home, the Black Sun will think twice before they raid Corellia again.

Got it, Texx, thanks!

Imperial losses were heavy, with only Howlrunner and one Academy Pilot returning to base. Rebel losses were complete.

Notes: The Z-95 and Corvan T-4 are 3D models available from Shapeways. Stats for both of these are currently under discussion on the FFG X-wing Miniatures Game Forum. The Z-95 Headhunter is the predecessor to the X-wing; it is slower, less maneuverable (except at low speeds), has weaker shields and less firepower. Though old and obsolete, it is still used by Rebel forces (among others) because it is cheap and available. The Corvan T-4 was invented by Gosric, for his SW campaign and is something of a cross between an X-wing, and A-Wing and the Y-wing, with quad lasers and a sturdy, armored hull. Large engines provide high thrust to get in and out quickly. It fills the same role in the Corvan Defense Forces as the Y-wing does in the Rebel Alliance fleet.

"Charlie Niner-Two" Captain Yorr (Lambda-class Shuttle) w/ Flight Instructor + Gunner + Sensor Jammer

"Snoop" TIE/fc Pilot (TIE/fc)

"Duster-Three" Army TIE/gt Pilot (TIE/gt) w/ Proton Torpedoes + Seismic Charges + Stealth Device

Notes: The TIE/gt (Ground Targeting) is the predecessor to the TIE/sa (Surface Attack, aka... TIE Bomber); it is based on the standard TIE fighter with an elongated cockpit module to accommodate the disposable ordnance. It is nearly as fast and nimble as the TIE fighter but, due to limited space, lacks a fire control system capable of Target Locks, making it dependent on an external source for TLs. The TIE/fc (Fire Control) is a modified TIE Fighter, sacrificing half of its armament for a sophisticated FC computer and target acquisition sensors. In theory, TIE/fcs acquire targets for a group of TIE/gts, providing precise targeting data for the actual ordnance carrying ships. The introduction of the TIE/sa made these ships obsolete as one TIE Bomber can perform the role of two TIE/gt + one TIE/fc. Now obsolete, the /gt & /fc are still to be found in remote areas, operated by both Imperial Navy and Imperial Army squadrons.

'Ace' Azzameen led a group of Rebel starfighters to this remote part of the galaxy to link-up with their new allies. The formerly independent world of Corvan had been brought under the Imperial heel. The surviving Corvan Defense Forces were instructed to disperse and continue the fight against the Empire. Requests for help from the Rebel Alliance could not be met, due to limited resources. Recognizing their common cause (the destruction of the Galactic Empire), the two groups have agreed to combine their efforts for mutual benefit. Before that can happen, contact between the two groups must be established ant that is the mission of Contact Team-Zed; establish contact with the remnants of the CDF.

Captain Yorr's mission, this day, was to evaluate the combat capabilities of Imperial Army forces in this remote system. To that purpose, a training mission has been sent to the local asteroid belt to conduct missile and bombing evaluations.

The presence of the other force was a surprise to both but they were equally determined to bring the fight to the enemy wherever they found them. Yorr, directing the fight from his command shuttle, sent in the attack craft first, while 'Ace' Azzameen decided to attack now, rather than wait for the arrival of the Alliances new "allies". The Rebels claimed the first kill, as Azzameen destroyed the TIE/fc but not before it could pass its TL to the Army TIE/gt, who then fired its missiles and destroyed "Zed-3". The fight went on for a little while with neither side able to do much besides scrape shields off opposing ships. Both sides then received reinforcements and the fight continued until the Corvan T-4 took out Yorr's shuttle and Azzameen destroyed the TIE/gt. The remaining TIE fighter decided that discretion was the better part of valor and fled the scene. With no chance to catch the fleeing TIE, the Rebels and their new friends departed together.

Chris

This is really cool. I've been following these campaigns. The maps are top quality. Would you guys be willing to make a map for us to use for campaigns at the LGS? Maybe one without extensive claims being made? Say maybe, each faction would have x number of predesignated territories given at the beginning of the campaign?

We could print a copy or two and post them on the board. Anyone who wants to participate, can.

Just a humble request, because your artwork is fascinating.

PHASE 4 STARTS NOW

The Rebels have picked up a major victory in the Dustig Sector, liberating its systems from Imperial rule. This extends the Rebels' considerable influence in the region.
The Corellian Sector has become the focus of much of the fighting, and collateral damage is beginning to take its toll on the morale of the populace.
