first time last night...

Well, we did it. We were scheduled for Top Secret on roll20.net, but one of the players was sick. He's chosen not to jump into Edge of the Empire at this time so the rest of us played Edge. I was the GM.

The four players had generated characters before, so they were NOT using the pre-gens, but I chose to use the beginner box adventure as I'd heard it played through on several podcasts and knew it would be easy for us ALL to learn the system together. I did use the full rules as opposed to the "beginner" rules (crits, etc.).

I was very pleased with everything. I am sure I fumbled some things, but they didn't know (and I didn't either, for that matter - LOL). I did tell them up front that I wanted them to understand the dice pools and how to build them so that they would know their character's strengths and weaknesses without me having to know everything about their characters. This seemed to keep them in the narrative even more.

Speaking of the narrative, this was brand new to all of us except one who had delved a LITTLE into the fate system, and at the end they ALL said they enjoyed the system and cinematic feel to everything. One commented that this even though this was a new system that it was much faster and smoother than playing "other games" where you had a myriad of tables. No matter how much you "know" those systems they still bog down.

All in all, a great experience!

Well done sir! The beginners box really is a good jumping on point, even if it is very railroady..

Does roll20 support the special dice? Or how did you get that to work?

Thanks Desslok. They enjoyed it and I did too. :-)

Kshatriya - if you are mentor status, you can use macros. Someone wrote one that's invoked with !eed - you just have to "load" it first.

Wait...wait. The original Top Secret or Top Secret SI? I haven't gotten to play either in ages.

Original - we never tried SI...

A nice blast from the past there... :D

Back when spies were spies. Ah, the Cold War is great for gaming settings.

Agreed - and our campaign is taking place in the early 80's...

I must say, though, that I'd rather just play Edge. :-)
