Need Help. Is my Boba Fett card real or fake

By Suchibu, in X-Wing

Hello all, I bought a Boba Fett alt. art card off eBay a few days ago. Just got it today, when I opened it the first thing that came to my mind is "fake"

I have a wedge and black squad pilot to compare the card to. A few things are the color on the back looks washed out and it's sorta dull. It feels lighter then the other cards. The copy right is 2013 LFL 2013 FFG and it is hard to ready. The other cards all have 2013 LFL FFG.

Now it is possible this is real and the cards just look like crap because there were not that many made.

So if someone has a Boba Fett they can look at and compare to see if this is a fake that would be great.

I suggest you post pictures of it here; front and back. That's the only way anyone can give you an answer.

No, I don't think photos will help. Based on the description, someone with the same prize card should be able to compare it to their standard cards and give you an answer. It's possible that FFG used a print-on-demand service for their limited edition prize cards, and that would explain the difference in quality.

This card has the same copyright marking: 2013 LFL 2013 FFG

I noted that the image you posted does not have the Firespray label on the card as the original in the game does, did FFG change the card by that much?

On the alternative art cards, yes. The whole idea is to put as much as art as possible on there. If you don't know he's flying a Firespray, your kinda in trouble anyways.

All the boba cards I have seen online look the same. The lando card has the same copyright tag as the fett. I guess it shows that production cards are much better than prize cards as far as quality. Like I said, when I saw it I thought it was a crap printed card out of kinkos. I would guess they made a few thousand cards and used a quick printer in the states to try and match the card to the others the best they could. Now the Wedge card is much better quality because I think it was had a larger production run for the game night kits.

So in the end a sent the eBay guy an "Im sorry" message call the card fake and asking for my money back. Now I need to find a Lando card.

This could be a lesson/warning to anyone who wants to spend hard earned money on such a card.

based on what you described the card is correct, I was at worlds and just pulled on of mine out. The copyright is hard to see and the picture seems a bit faded, as if looking at a VCR quality image.

Make sure you can still see part of the image in the rest of the card, its really hard to see but the bottom half is just an overlay with about 95% opacity.

I disagree. I have that card, so I think seeing a few good pics to compare would help immensely.

FFG uses the print on demand for the alt art cards.

Something that comes to my mind when reading this is that you should never, ever call something fake or pirated out in the open without photographic proof of some kind and without giving the person a chance to defend themselves. You could be wrong, and if you are you will be damaging the reputation of an otherwise reputable person. You're also making yourself the fool for not checking your facts in the first place and jumping to the conclusion that he stiffed you if you make accusations without proof and later find out that you were wrong.

I showed the card to a few people in my playing group and all said it does not "look right". Now we were comparing this card to the game night kit cards which are much better quality along with photos off the internet of the boba card. We live in a world where one has to question everything.

TBH he never stated the sellers name.

How do you post photos in these forums?

Hello, Being P.C. makes the world a worse place. Why can't he state his opinion on the fact that it looks like junk and not the real thing? Honestly from the Pic on Ebay it looks like Cheap Crap that I could make with an Apple IIe and a Beta Tape of Star Wars. You look like fool for saying someone can't be honest. He could be saving people from making the same mistake...maybe even you. Hell, I'll say it...Looks like a Fake the Seller Pirated from Jabba's butt!

Thanks for the help guys. I didn't give out the guys name, I sent him a nice message about the card and that I thought it was a PC printed card. He said he got it at a worlds event along with a t-shirt. So I really looked into the card and that's why I posted here to see if others had the same "quality" of card. It sucks that card looks like crap and all the other promo art cards are nice CLEAR printed cards. I love this game and what to collect all the "extra stuff" FFG comes out with.

If anyone here has a Lando for sale send me a message. Make sure you use photoshop and good card stock. :-)

I can reproduce you a Lando card pretty cheap. ;)

Your Boba Fett picture looks legit to me. I'm comparing it to my copy but where I notice the "legitimacy" is in the quality of the printed text (aside from the extremely faded "2013 LFL 2013 FFG"). I'm also comparing the fidelity of the text against your BSP card and, in that picture, they look close enough. Note that all of these promos are run through FFG's Print On Demand facility and variations and quality are not as tight as their regular cards. The cards are thinner and slightly different in size (from each other and regular cards).

If you really want some assurance, maybe get the guy's full name and contact FFG to see if he was actually registered for World's. James Kniffen or Frank Brooks should have the registrant list. I don't know if you need to go that far as it looks legit to me.

I'm not saying he can't be honest. I'm saying it's extremely bad form to accuse a seller on eBay of bad practice with no evidence. The moral and honest thing to do is to verify *first*, not *last*.

Yeah it looks legit to me. I was happy with the quality of mine, even though it has a different 'look' than my Wedge card. But as was said, the cards just like the minis, can have production errors or variance in quality. Printer might have been low on ink when they did that one, who knows?

I agree that your Boba card looks legit; Looking at how the card is not aligned properly, if it were a copy the art would simply not be there at all. The corner also matches in quality of the rest of the card.

While normally I would agree that it is somewhat bad form to accuse first and ask questions later, ebay has time limits on this kind of thing and if I sold someone something that was fake I would want to know about it so I can fix it. I've been accused of all kinds of stuff but 99.9% of the time the buyer has gone away after we talked it over and I rectified the situation. He withdrew the case, and in my book that's an admission of wrongdoing. So no harm, no foul.

If he HADN'T filed the case and spent the next few weeks trying to figure out if it was fake, he may have let the time expire and then been stuck with it.

And as a seller with 5K feedback, I trust very few people. Every time I try to trust someone, they lie to me and I end up getting screwed. It's sad, but that's the world we live in.
