Oh you did not just shoot that green **** at me!

There was a thread that I read a little while back saying that Wing Commander would be great for the flight path system like X-wing runs on.

Well, I had another idea. Independence Day.

On side would have the Aliens' Attacker fighters:

And the other side would have F-18 Hornets.

Gameplay would work much like X-wing, with the Alien Attacker fighters being maneuverable as TIE Fighters with shields, and the Hornets working like unshielded X-wings.

I really like the spirit of this because I LOVE iD4. BUT...

We humans got totally owned by those aliens. We were outnumbered and in a one-on-one fight you're almost guaranteed to lose that fight unless you use a canyon wall a la Will Smith. I'm not sure how that part would work. If you had a mothership, though, that could be attacked and thus win the entire battle, I would be convinced.

Also, I love the quote you used for this thread!

Let's see... Stats...

Alien Fighters:

3 Attack

2 Evade

5 Shield

3 Hull

Uses TIE Interceptor Dial

F-18

1 Attack

1 Evade

0 Sheild

1 Hull

Uses the Lambda Shuttle Dial

When dramatically convenient (turn 5), all Alien Fighters automatically die.

I have an alien fighter from a really old micro machines-style independence day playset. I can't really say if it's to scale or not but it's close to the average size of the X-wing fighters which is good enough in my book.

I've been meaning to make a custom Will Smith pilot card and stick it in the game, I'll probably start with TIE advanced stats and go from there.

edit: I think it was this one, I remember the floppy disk

I remember I really wanted those ID4 toys when I was a kid, but my mom kept coming back with "No, they're too scary." Well, I'm a grownup now, so I can buy whatever toys I want, mom. ;) I think I'll hit eBay and see if I can find one of those sets so I can cast up a few Attackers to use in X-wing.

Woot! I wouldn't give a Hornet a Lambda shuttle dial though. Too slow... maybe a Y-wing dial would work?

I was mostly joking, because of how one sided the fight was in the movie until dramatically convenient. :)

Does anyone remember the Steve Jackson game Ogre? That was one super tank against an entire army. That game worked, so maybe this idea could also.

I'm all about this system reaching into multiple universes, even if theyre not compatible with each other, buuuuuut...I just can't wrap this particular one around my head. I put up a poll on the FB page like a year ago suggesting Battlestar Galactica and Wing Commander. Crimson Skies is also a no-brainer.

I'll be broke if this system goes anywhere else.

I recently got the new release of Ogre. It was part of a kickstarter that did.... well. The game is huge. It just hit stores. My FLGS has a huge stack of them.

Yeah, wasnt that just a few days ago? Its about as Early 90s as it gets in style, but apparently it was popular. Or at least had the standard SJG cult following that most of his games do. What can I say? I refuse to use any RPG system thats not GURPS.

I went to the launch party, so I've had mine for a few weeks now. The retail version just hit stores a few days ago. The rules haven't changed much in this edition, but it still runs quick and smooth. Great game.

I do enjoy GURPS, though it's not my exclusive system. So many fun games out there.

Considering the original Ogre game was mid 70s, being early 90s means was 20 years ahead of it's time. ;)

Didnt realize it was that old. Maybe I saw a 90s version or something.
