Anyone who frequents the X-wing boards might have seen this, but I thought I would post it here now that it is all done.

I wanted to take one of the X-wing miniature game YT-1300/Millennium Falcon models and repaint it to resemble the Krayt Fang. The picture from the map seems to have the hull as a general rust-brown with a couple darker brown panels. I wanted to vary it up a bit, and decided that anywhere that wasn't shown on the map could also be the basic YT hull colour. This is how my repaint turned out:

I'm fairly happy with it. It looks old and beat up, as one might expect under the care of a Trandoshan Slaver.

My friend collects X-Wing. I consider myself to be a pretty good painter, but I wouldn't trust myself to mess with custom paint jobs on those beautiful minis.

Not bad, but I am curious as to how those un-rusted parts would remain so. It doesn't look like it is based on part-by-part (like replaced panels) or by weathering patterns (like parts that would be broken by wind flow over the hull while on planet).

In my case, the orange-brown panels aren't rusted, but rather are painted that way. For me, the rust-streaks are the only "true" rust that shows on the ship, much akin to the various bits and pieces on the falcon itself.

Mate that is a great job.

I do have two very minor critisisms:

First, the exhaust at the rear and many of the burn marks, wouldn't the soot follow the airflow while the craft is in atmosphere? And hence the soot would go front to rear. The rear exhausts are a good example of where it seems "strange".

There also seems to be a small amount of overspray that could be "touched up". Which then got me to thinking that maybe some reds, greens and such just to spot colour some things. Maybe some decals from old planes or such: "Warning do not step" etc.

As I said, MINOR stuff, I think the paint job as shown is inspirational. Thanks for sharing.

I wonder what kind of pilot skill Trex would have! I'm not sure I'd want to go up against an Imperial squad in X-Wing with a YT-1300 Trex is probably above the Outer Rim Smuggler in pilot skill, but below Lando, Chewbacca and Han...

I don't disagree, although the original model had them fanning out in a radial pattern rather than straight back, perhaps indicating airflow. Here's a top pic of the original 5' studio model. The 3' model's exhaust pattern was even more obvious.

In this case, I was going with established patterns with the scorch marks...

I think Trex could be taken as an Outer Rim Smuggler with Veteran Instincts to boost the pilot skill above the basic outer-rim smuggler. Also, this ship would also have the Engine modification as well, at least in the game terms for X-wing, but nothing more than that.

Again, looks good, but from the description that I remember (could be wrong) the whole thing was that rusty-brownish-orange.

But, that could be overkill.

There are a few versions of the Krayt Fang out there that are entirely rust-brown with dark brown accents. I didn't find it interesting enough visually, which is why I did the bicoloured hull with the dark brown and grey accents.The "clearance" I gave myself on this is that the map of the original has some of the engine hydraulic bits still in white/grey. I chose to use my own creative license and have more "basic" hull showing. Too each their own, indeed.

I like it. I think the bicolored paint scheme is nicer than over all rust brown.
