Large ships are fast?

By whafrog, in X-Wing

Hi, new to the game and loving it so far. We just used our first large ship the other day (a shuttle) and it seems like because of the base size, even a move of 1 is pretty long, about as long as a 2 or 3 for smaller ships. This didn't seem right, so I just wanted to check: you do the movement the same with large ships as small ships, right? Put the ruler in the knobs in front, move the ship so the rule is in the knobs behind?

Thanks...

Yep exactly the same. It can be as much of a disadvantage as an advantage, As it's much easier to fly them off the board.

LOL, my son almost found that out…luckily for him he can pre-visualize the move down to the millimeter :)

Thanks for clarifying.

Keep in mind that they might be fast but they also maneuver like bricks. which makes a certain amount of sense, they're faster because of larger, more powerful engines but can't make sharp turns because they aren't made for dogfighting.

I should point out, when you put Engine Upgrade on the large base ships, they suddenly can REALLY move. Adding Boost means you can fly across the map and make fast, but super large, turns. Usefully for breaking away from engagements or to pounce upon an opponent who doesn't think you can get into range that quickly.

Ion them:)

Twice

The base of the large ships is equal to 2 small ships, so a movement 1 on the large is really like a move of 3 . They are big bricks as someone said, but bricks can take a beating

Well yeah.

I mean remember that the falcon was having a hard time outrunning Star Destroyers.

I know a few maneuvers.

Lazily listing to the left? That's your maneuvers.

@LukesFather: correction, compared to the fighters a move of 1 with a large ship equals a move of 2 with a fighter. The large ship cover exactly 4cm more distance due to the 4cm longer base. The front side of the large base is 12cm from its starting position after a straight 1, the same is true for a small craft after a straight 2.

Try giving Han an expert handling, it works really nice with his huge base and his 360 degree firing arc. Remember you can put that move template any where along the side...

This. Seeing the titanium astral bovine come about 180' in one turn (thanks to Yorr's stress-relieving shoulder massages) is disconcerting to say the least.

Just to clarify, what Magnus means is that there was a misprint by FF on one of the large based expansions; it accidentally shipped with the label "Lambda-class Shuttle Expansion Pack". Titanium astral bovine , "HLC" sometimes permanently affixed to its title, is the proper canon name.

Sorry for the confusion.

Not really. Let's say the small bases are 1 movement unit. The large bases are 2. A 1 straight maneuver will move the front edge of the base of a large ship 3 units forward. The same maneuver will move a small base ship 2 units forward. So if you are flying in formation, subtract 1 from the small ship's maneuver and they will be in sync (for straight flight).

Yeah, I found that out when Sable creamed my quartet of TIE/in with Chewie and a couple B-wings. The b-wings, I killed. The falcon was doing wild pirouettes all over the map, picking me off one by one with the turret.

Yes, but if you place a small ship side by side (fronts aligned), and the small ship makes a 2 forward and the large ship makes a 1 forward, they will still be perfectly aligned.

That's exactly what I said. "subtract 1 from the small ship's maneuver and they will be in sync (for straight flight)"

1 for a big ship = 2 for a small ship (not 3 as LukesFather suggested).

2 for a big ship = 3 for a small ship

3 for a big ship = 4 for a small ship

etc...

Generally speaking, anything cow, bovine, bison, or bus related = shuttle.

If I want to do a big ship's barrel roll, what length maneuver template I need: 1 or 2?

(Example: Boba Fett + Expert Handing).

it's a 1 template
