Mesmerizing charmed animals

By rimmer3, in Talisman

May I mesmerize Minstrel's charmed animals (or Ghoul's raised corps)?

We play it that you can but that creature attacks you immediately on your space.

When we all used to play that Hag and Poltergeist were not actually Followers, I would have said that you must treat charmed Animals the same way and can't cast Mesmerism. Now that those Adventure Cards are real Followers, Minstrel Animal Followers might be subject to Mesmerism as well, but how to deal with it? Wording on the card is the same as BI 4th edition (and the same as 2nd Edition), then perhaps we should assume that nothing has changed from previous FAQ. Animal Followers and Ghoul's Raised Corpses may not be Mesmerized because they're not real Followers, but can they be sacrificed or lost in the Chasm?.

Aehm... we need the help of an entitled rule expert to give a definitive answer.

Hmm, depends. We haven't subtype for different kind of friends. Since Minstrel can get an animal as a (full) Follower, all Rules about Followers still apply. We can cast a Mesmerism Spell at Animals, however as we cannot have them as a Followers (only Minstrel can), we're forced to put them into Discard Pile. Also I think, since Poltergeist &c are now treated as Followers as well, we can cast at them Mesmerism Spell too.

It seems the answer is not given to this old topic yet..

You cannot mesmerize a charmed animal or resurected minion if you can't control it !

If the Minstrel or Ghoul ditch the animal or resurected minion, they will become normal enemies again, and are staying on the space

I think John Goodenough should have the final say on this. But for what it's worth, my opinion is that if an animal or minion is ditch by a character, they should make there merry way to the discard piles.

Cheers

We play that you can mesmerize charmed animals and raised corpses, but since the spell caster can't control them, then they are discarded.

Playing the game close to the theme of those characters and their abilities would probably have both ex-followers attack their new 'master' - I probably would have suggested this if I had not been the Minstrel when this first arose!

well, i can't say if this rule came from John goodenough, but i heard it from Jon.. happy.gif

This will be good enough for now..

A good character cannot cast Acquisition on the Runesword (only non-good characters can hold it). Thematically and from a rules perspective, this seems very similar to the Animals situation.

What's more, the mesmerism spell only affects followers. The only person who looks at Animals as followers is the Minstrel, so no one else should be able to target an Enemy - Animal card with Mesmerism.

Interesting tangent question. If the Ghoul raises an undead animal, can the Minstrel then cast Mesmerism on it? I think perhaps he should.

Haha that's a good one !

Well... a undead animal can still be charmed to my opinion.

He will still hear the melody of the minstrel's flute gui%C3%B1o.gif
