What's Your Buying Rationale?

By R22, in X-Wing

Now that I've placed an order for the last three I didn't have, I have them all or at least on the way. I have two copies of the core box as well.

I want them all - mainly so I can build whatever I want for fun, but now that a "full set" is here (at least on the way) I can look at what I like and don't like and start doubling there...

- buy to host large multi-player club/convention games!

Originally I bought because I love Star Wars, and to get enough to play with friends. 1 of most ships was enough, along with 2 core sets.

After finding an awesome playgroup nearby, I have gotten a lot more into the game and have bought more ships for cards and new paintjobs.

I'm a collector first. I have 1 of every ship now. All of my rebel ships sit in a display case when not being used in a game. I'll have my Imperials displayed also once I get a new case for them.

I do play on occasion, my brother-in-law enjoys the Imperials. I do plan to have at least 2 of most fighters with the exception of the TIE advanced and the HWK-290.

Like many....I am a Star Wars fan first. Period. The first movie I ever saw in a theater (drive-in actually) was A New Hope.

My mother took me three times to see it...it's her fault I am such a sci-fi fan.

I try to keep with The OT, the ST and the Clone wars animated series (hoping for some Jedi fighters).

I am really looking forward to the transport, corvette and the Imp. Aces pack!

The basic (and most common) fighters I buy four (x-wings, TIEs and TIE Adv). I only have two a-wings and two b-wings, as I see them as uncommon....

One Slave-1, one Falcon and one shuttle...

I do have the HWK-290....well, just because I will want at least ONE of EVERY ship!

Star Wars Fan first and foremost. Because of that im collecting both Factions, and currently have one of everything. Ultimatly I would like to be able to field pure list of any ship at 100pts (sans falcon, shuttle & Slave, probably only ever have 1 of each... maybe :) even if its not compettive.

Buy all the things, buy many. Ask for wife's forgiveness later.

I am not a collector, I buy to play.. so I don't have just one of anything, I have probably more than I need, and will be getting more as they come out.

I have also been a fan of the movies since 77 when I saw it the first time in a theatre.. it was wonderful on that big screen.. hooked ever since.. all Sci Fi has a place in my soul.. lol

I prefer the Imperial side (those ships are just too cool in my book lol), but will play either if the need arises. If we are listing our addictions.. sigh

I got my 3rd starter just recently also..

10 TIE Fighters

6 TIE Interceptors

4 TIE advanced

7 TIE Bombers

2 Shuttles

2 Firesprays

6 X-Wings

4 Y-Wings

4 A-Wings

3 B-Wings

2 HWKs

2 Falcons

Will probably end up with 3 of the Aces packs as they are made available..

I can field a decent fleet of ships for each side.. it helps on my game nights when I go against a couple people and have an ally myself..

I play this to have fun so I also repaint ships as I have done with my Wings of War/Glory WWI planes.. I have way too many of those as well.. lol

Brothers...you can never have to many of these wonderful toys.

;)

Mine is pretty much the "Shut up and take my money!!!" method.

I provide stuff for people to play with and run demo games from time to time. But even then I like having lots of ships.

So I buy 100 points worth of most of the small fighters. 4 TI's, 4 TB's, 4 X's, 4 Y's, 4 A's, ect... I only own one of each large ship though and only one HWK.

So it's somewhere between collector and player. I buy at least 1 of everything even if I'm not sure I'll use it. But mostly I buy to put as many lists together as I can.

So what's your buying rationale?

-Buy by faction

True -- since I play both factions

-Buy to supply myself and my gaming group (me)

True -- I tend to show new players how to play, so yes

-Buy for desired list

True -- I like to try out new builds

-Buy to collect

I collect each of the models, in varying quantities, to use in gameplay

-Buy for cards

Of course -- you can always use more upgrades and talent cards

-Buy for models

How could you not buy the game for the models. Compared to the "other" game, these models are lightyears ahead of what they produced.

-Buy to reflect SW universe (me)

-Buy because it's SW and right in front of me (to which I'm incredibly sympathetic/drawn)

Of course -- Being a fan of everything Star Wars straight from beginning, what more can I say about that.

SteveOStyle...that is a pretty reply right there.

:D

I buy to have a squadron of each. I want 3x X-wing, B-Wing, A-WIng, Y-Wing, Tie Int, already have 4 Tie Fighter, and Bombers. Just 1 of the big ships as well as the Advance and Hwk

what do you mean by squadron.. Rogue Squadron had over 12 ships init...

what do you mean by squadron.. Rogue Squadron had over 12 ships init...

Which is funny because most real life fighter squadrons are between 18 and 24 aircraft.

If you want to use the accurate terms, it would be a 'Flight', which is 3-4 craft. :)

Either way, I totally approve of having several of each ship to fly thematic and functional lists.

I believe Rogue Squadron was 12 at full strength, but they were rarely at full strength.

12 is standard squadron size for Rebs and Imps.

Somewhere my addled old brain remembers something about a red 13 and 14.. but I could be wrong.. and I haven't the foggiest about where I got it from.. but 12 is good enough, especially with how fast they replace pilots on both sides.. lol

My rationale is idiotic and I admit it.

I try to get enough ships of each type so that I could fill out a 100pt list with the same ship. I may nix that with the shuttle because I'd cry if I had to fly 4 Shuttles or 6 Hwk's at the same time. I started after wave 1 was out of stock so I'm catching up.

X-wing x4

Tie Fighter x6 (need 2)

Y-wing x2 (need 3)

Tie Advanced x2 (need 2)

A-wing x5

Tie Interceptor x5

Firespray x3

Falcon x2

Tie Bomber x3 (need 3)

B-wing x3 (need 1)

Hwk x2 (...)

Shuttle x1 (at least 1 more)

I get at least 4 of each small ship to represent one "flight", and usually 3 of each large ship.

I currently have:

6 X-Wings

4 Y-Wings

2 YT-1300s

6 A-Wings

4 B-Wings

4 HWK 290's

9 TIE Fighters

4 TIE Advanced

6 TIE Interceptors

3 Firespray

6 TIE Bombers

3 Lambda Shuttles

I'm the only one of my friends that owns the game, so we all use my stuff when we play.

I only have 4 Ys, but I feel that no-one in their right mind would ever build a squad of five of these without turrets.

I did the same thing. The first time I had guys over to play, my buddy decides to fly 5 Y-Wings! He proxied with an X-wing.

Buy all the things, buy many. Ask for wife's forgiveness later.

A man after my own heart! Although to be fair my wife is very supportive, although this is one of the few strategy games that she isn't interested in playing, sadly.

I do plan on getting two Corvettes when they come out, so we can have some Epic Ship vs. Epic Ship battles!

lessee.. I buy for all the reasons. All of thems. I like to have enough to run a variety of different lists, from an X-wing power trio to a tie swarm, I got a second shutte/falcon/firespray because I intend to do some more mods and painting, and extra x-wings and A-wings, and HWKs for the same reason...

..and I like to throw a little something at the local game store when I'm in there
