Sith Purebloods

By kaosoe, in Game Masters

So my wife is toying with the idea of playing a game set in the Old Republic, about the time of the SW:TOR games.

Without getting into an argument about canon and EU, how would you stat the Sith Pure bloods?

My thought would be 3 in Brawn and a 1 in Presence (those arrogant jerks!)

But really not sure about any abilities. I want to get the opinions of the community at large. What do you guys think?

Sith Pureblood (Kissai or Zuguruk caste)

Racial Abilities

Brawn 2

Agility 2

Intellect 2

Cunning 2

Willpower 1

Presence 3

  • Wound Threshold: 10 + Brawn
  • Strain Threshold: 11 + Willpower
  • Starting Experience: 90 XP
  • Special Abilities: Sith begin the game with one rank in either Leadership (Kissai) or Mechanics (Kuguruk). They still may not train either above 2 ranks during character creation. Sith also start the game with one rank in the Uncanny Senses talent.

Truthfully, why not just use the stats for Humans and treat the Purebloods as a Near-Human species?

It's the simplest and most balanced method, particularly as there's not a whole lot of information on Sith Purebloods as a species.

The thought crossed my mind, and it's probably the fairest solution.

I am still curious to see if what others would think a SP stats would be.

because of lack of evidence of anything beyond a heightened chance of force sensitivity, i would just have them be near humans.

I would probably just use human stats. There's a myriad of near humans in the galaxy, and for most I'd just re-skin the human. Having the +2 skill points to add where you want allows you to effecxtively emulate the possible skillset of a different culture.

Yup, which still mystifies my as to why Corellians will be a subrace.

Because the EU loves Corellia so much they are practically married. Seriously. If you want a hotshot pilot, he damned well has to be from Corellia. As if the Corellian public school system teaches nothing but piloting, gambling, and charm.

No other planet gets nearly the love Corellia does in the EU.

It's like the writers are thinking to themselves "This character is pretty cool. I guess he has to be from Corellia."

One of my biggest pet peeves in the EU is the homogeneity of planets and species. I want to meet the one Corellian who isn't a badass pilot. Never really had the reflexes for pilot training or the stomach for high stakes gambling. Maybe he is a professor of musical theory at the local university. Spends his nights at home, listening to Nemoidian opera and painting landscapes. Watches the Corellian equivilent of Dancing with the Stars and The Joy of Painting with Bob Ross. He's got a collection of Star Wars figurines still in the box. Mint condition!

Hell, I think I just wrote a character to play when Sons of Fortune is out.

I think I'm about to derail my own thread, but this reminds me why I am so burnt out on Mandalorians for the similar reasons.

While the whole bit about cultural homogeneity is true, I have to wonder in what story we'd meet the character you describe.

+1

It's a lack of imagination for writers, developers, and fanboys/girls when they take a single character from a movie and make their entire race/homeland etc. based of the particular skill set of that character.

Kaosoe,

Be sure to listen to the latest Order 66 podcast, particularly Fragments from the Rim. DarthGM/Phil takes a few very well-deserved potshots at a particular author's interpretation of that culture.

As for the Corellians in Suns of Fortune... I'm reserving judgment until I see the actual stats. It could be something cool, could be a waste of book space. I'm kinda leaning towards the former, but given how underwhelming the Chiss were (particularly in terms of special abilities), I'm giving a bit more credence to the later.

I'm still very keen to see both sets of stats - Chiss and Corellian. :)

I just finished not listening to that episode yesterday. It was very well put together and just all around awesome. DarhGM made me feel a little guilty about my earlier comment, but I still stick to what I said. :)

Now all I have going through my head is Bob Ross on a vid screen saying "yeah...we will have the two suns rising in the background...like this....and a few happy star destroyers here....destroying half the city....yeah...."

Great. I may have a new NPC for my poor players. :D
