Expansions

By agntorenge, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

Hi I've just bought Arkham Horror and I've seen about 5 expansions. My question is can you use all the expansions together or one at a time? Can some expansions be used together and not others? Please help out a noob.

Expansions are mostly meant to make the base game harder. So if you just got the game, enjoy that a bit before adding in expansions.

The expansions are mostly meant to be played alone. You can get some weird interactions if you mix them up and also see a dilution of the decks. In some cases this doesn't really matter but in others - such as the Act Cards in King in Yellow it is counter-productive to the concepts of the expansion.

However, most people find that mixing one big box expansion and one small box expansion is an ideal mix. Mixing it all is possible and some have gone to great lengths in determining what to cull in order to make it play better. Finally, the larger boxes are somewhat of a "toolbox" approach in that you can permanently add the new features to the base game or other expansions without playing the full expansion all the time.

Every expansion is meant to be mixed or left out piece by piece.

If you want to use the heralds brought in by King in Yellow but not the act cards then your welcome to do so.

As was said the mixing of them all has some wierd effects. Some people "trim" the decks as a way of keeping the threats from every expansion still threatening. I just recently did this myself. Working out great so far but my god the game is hard.

I recomend the King in yellow for the heralds and kingsport for the epic battle cards and more heralds.

These are the 2 greatest additions to the game so far.

All expansions for me, all the time! However, you may wish to work yourself into them one at a time :3

Well you could just get Kingsport, which has two heralds and the Epic Battle cards.

I agree that Epic Battle is the greatest universal element to be added to the game. Makes final battles much more intense and worthwhile if you win.

Though I can't easily overlook how awesome the Injury and Madness cards from Dunwich are. And I'm sure the Personal Story cards from Innsmouth will be excellent, too.
