I'm trying to emulate the Farstar from the Darkstryder campaign for my campaign and was looking at the retrofitted hangar bay to house some headhunters. That being said, the hangar bay on a silhouette 5 ship like the CR90 only allows it to hold one fighter. Anyone have any ideas on dealing with this issue?
Retrofitted Hangar Bay
Add the modification options listed on the retrofitted hangar bay. For 4,000 credits and four mechanics checks, starting at hard, ending at an upgraded formidable check for the last modification, will result in a silhouette capacity of 9, enough to hold 3 starfighters.
Or, you could make a new version of the CR90 with a hangar bay for x amount of fighter, perhaps with somewhat reduced passenger and cargo capacity or handling, or speed...
Or simply point out the Far Star is actually a modified Corellian Corvette that's actually slightly larger than the versions your player are familiar with making it a Silhouette 6 instead allowing for a much larger capacity for your hangar bay.
If memory serves it was requisitioned from the Imperials and they're known for using a Fighter Carrier version of the CR-90 guess I better go and check what that capacity is...
Edit: Okay Sil 5 would allow for one star fighter with space for maybe a speeder bike, a Sil would have enough space for 6 starfighters how many was the Far Star capable of carrying again?
This allowed the newly christened FarStar to carry 8 T-65 X-wing starfighters and 4 REC Defender starfighters . It also had two support craft, the Muvon and an Aegis -class combat shuttle .
How many?!
Um can someone confirm if its okay to have those links in the quoted bit above please?
So roughly 36 for the star fighters and maybe about 8 for the support craft so definitely think the Far Star's Silhouette should be upped to 6 maybe the CR-90 too but until someone confirms how many fighters the CR-90 carrier can hold I figure this is a variant of the CR-90 that's much larger than the Blockade Runner from A New Hope.
Edited by copperbellJust a point of fact: the retrofitted hanger addon represents a kit that can be installed on most spacecraft. The FarStar was almost completely rebuilt from the keel up to handle that hanger space, it even says in the campaign guides the engines had to be completely rebalanced to handle the mods. So for game purposes the FarStar probably doesn't count as a CR90 with hanger addons, but as a totally new craft with its own stat block.
Additionally, I actually made a Ouija board of the farstar (map showing the flight deck and figuring out how all the craft fit) to better understand how they all fit in there. The Farstar only carries (iirc) 5 x-wings and the defenders internally. The remaining three x-wings, the muvon, and the combat shuttle were actually carried on external docking tubes and airlocks. Furthermore on the flight deck, the x-wings are tucked in close, but reasonably so....but then the defenders are crammed in between them (they are super tiny), so in between the Xes and defenders is a meter or less of room. Even the slightest error in launching them can result in damage ranging from misaligned lasers to a catastrophic crash that halts all flight deck operations.
......also I'm looking forward to thethe finalized AoR book for a reason that should now be rather obvious.
Edited by GhostofmanSo those Defenders would you say they're Silhouette 2?
Still think the Far Star is then a Silhouette 6 by that rationale it has an extra hangar modification making its maximum of 25 which would fit now I'm wondering if you'll show us a pic of your assembled version of the Far Star.
Unfortunately I'm in the field for the next week or so and the Ouija Bord is on my desktop.
The Defender is smaller then an a-wing (seriously with a crew of two, they gotta be crewed by jawas with no sense of personal space or something) so if you wanted to knock em down to sil2 you wouldn't get much argument from me.
Also throwing another hydrospanner into the works remember the Farstar also carries a handful of ground vehicles too. A couple SRVs, some ULAVs, speederbikes, and the maintenance deck is filled with spare parts including a full replacement engine for the combat shuttle.
When you really sit down and read the descriptions and look at the stats building the Farstar using modification rules is essentially impossible. Justifications for almost every attachment can be made and the hard points will never add up. Once you get to that point its better to consider it a new craft.
For what its worth I think another ship called the Flurry jhas the same issue. But as that one comes from vomitous mass at bakura....or I mean truce at bakuda, its likely its been overlooked for good reason.
Given that the CR90 is noted as being a modular design, and thus can have wildly varying crew requirements and cargo capacity based upon its configuration, I wouldn't bother using the retrofitted hanger.
Instead, I'd just decide how many starships I'd want the Corvette to carry, taking note that going more than a full squadron (12 Silhouette 3 fighters) is probably excessive, and as noted with the FarStar, even having that much (plus room for shuttles and other vehicles) required very extensive modifications beyond what the CR90 would typically permit. Allowing for 6 Z-95 Headhunters and maybe a couple of light shuttles shouldn't be a problem for a C90 though, as it'd mostly be sacrificing cargo space for hanger space.
