Kagi allows Carnor and the other squint to get close. Since they cannot focus and will be forced to target lock Kagi who will be floating around the dice will come down to non modified rolls for my enemy.

Meh, if I saw that on the other side, I would just spread my squad out so you can't affect everyone. Ideally put a prototype up in R1 and action deny your interceptors so you don't get an action, and you're left shooting at the rest of my squad that is at R2-3 of the interceptors, and out of range of Kagi, so I couldn't even get a TL on him. Though the idea of a 5 health interceptor is a very interesting concept.

I would daredevil Carnor Jax instead, and change the royal TIEint into as many academy TIEs as possible.

Carnor Jax + daredevil, i can daredevil and collide with my opponent to abuse the touching rule to make him not be able to fire at Carnor at all, and a bunch of academy TIE is more likely to survive a longer time than the Royal, can hit more targets, and offer much more flexibility and just feels safer. Either way if your opponent cant spend focus, your weak TIE attacks would likely go through anyway.

If you're going to force unaided rolls against the Interceptors why not use the Stealth Device instead? It just needs to save on point of damage to as/more effective than either of the other modifications and with unmodified attacks you're more likely to see that.

So many squad builds rely on 1-3 spacing, focus moving, rerolls, sending target locks, extra attacks. While action denial would be an issue on my end, I still have 5 HP to hit through with 3 defense dice. I also wouldn't let Kagi be out of range, with Boost he will be in the fight with the rest of the interceptors. The denial won't affect everyone for focus/evade but it will affect the target that Carnor and the Royal will be attacking.

I toyed around with this idea in a Blended Fleet scenario (i.e. Rebel + Imperial together forever). I used Kagi, Carnor, and Biggs, and it was glorious.

I think this fleet has some serious potential.

FCS + Gunner on Kagi turns him into a chainsaw, as you always have a free target-lock on your second shot, essentially turning him into a lesser Han Shoots First for around 1/2 the price.

Intelligence Agent gives you knowledge of where something is going to be, allowing you to barrel-roll into a collision from one of your Academies for further action denial, or possibly to guide Carnor Jax into a superior position.
Kagi takes all the target locks, and Carnor prevents focusing and evading, so Kagi's likeliest to die first, but this is after several rounds of your swarmlet EATING their defenses.

Is it though? I mean to do it you need to put 29 points into a 6 skill, no ability ship. Sure you have the tankiness of an advance with the firepower and maneuvers of an interceptor but that seems a rather steep price.

I'm all for tougher interceptors but that's a lot of points for not much more bang. The same cost as Turr with VI and stealth for 2 more health? Not sure that's a trade I would make.

Interceptors thrive on not being hit by not being targeted in the first place. I think all you would really get is a less mobile more hittable interceptor. Stealth is very much the better investment. More health means a lot less when you're easier to hit.
