Hero Tokens - Suggestion for improvement

By aniedrig, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

This is a suggestion for a minor improvement of the hero tokens.

was anyone ever wondering why the hero tokens are not simply representing the four hero archetypes?! instead they are printed in a strange color, that has very little connection to any of the four hero archetypes and they show a rune symbol, which looks nice, but does not tell me anything about which hero it belongs to (other than the respective token on the hero sheet of course, but anyway...).

so i was just thinking that it would be extremely cool of FFG, if they printed new hero tokens in one of the future expansions, which represent the four hero archetypes. i wonder, why they did not do it in the first place, since it is kind of obvious.

since there are never more heroes of the same archetype allowed in one game, there would not be any confusion either.

maybe some of you would like to support this thread.

best wishes!

Not exactly :

More than one hero archetype (e.g. healer) is allowed.

More that one hero class (e.g. disciple) is not allowed.

oh, you are right. well then, nevermind :D

i misunderstood that part.

anyway, the colors and symbols especially could have been more distinguishable.

the rune symbols are hard to identify sometimes.

Agreed. They do tend to look pretty similar. Sometimes it seems that the choices they made for the symbols are equivalent to choosing "E, F, U, and V" for a game where players are unfamiliar with the english alphabet.

Litko Games makes some really good products if you are looking for some aftermarket tokens.

We've made a point of making sure each hero player takes the turn order card with the matching symbol for the hero tokens he's chosen. It hasn't been a problem for us remembering whose tokens are which.

Our group also does what Steve-O does. Never been an issue.

My group has always done as steve-o said. Never an issue unless there is a sun glare.

I often do as Steve-O does, but I still think that the token colours could be more easy to differentiate.

Nothing dramatical though, and perhaps a clue that I am not as young as I used to be.

Like everyone else, my group plays like Steve-O. I thought that was how it was set up in the rules to play but maybe I am making logical conclusions.

I feel like our group never uses them. I fear I missed something and embarrassed to ask.... Whats the point of them?

You use them as reminders for the most part, here are a couple of examples:

1) When you die you replace your hero on the board with your hero token

2) When the disciple uses 'Armor of faith' he places a hero token on which ever heroes sheet that was effected by 'prayer of healing' to act as a reminder that he may roll an extra brown defence dice when defending until the disciple collects them again at the start of his next turn.
