So what did you think of the first two? Any hopes, fears or desires for the third one? Being made now!
Conan movies : The third is coming!
The first movie was like a Wagner opera: There were some glorious moments, but there were some long hours in between those moments.
I hope they do something Howard would have enjoyed. Conan doesn't need an origin story like being chained to a slave wheel. He doesn't need a reason for being who he is, he just IS who he is.

I got hooked on Conan back in the late '60's with the publication of the Lancer editions featuring the atwork of Frank Frazetta. Those books were so different than any adventure stories I had ever read before. When the movie appeared in 1982 I couldn't wait to see it at my local movie theater. I felt at the time Arnold was the only one who could possibly play Conan. The movie was a huge success and I really liked it but I always felt it didn't quite live up to the stories of Robert E. Howard. Even Arnold's portrayal of our favorite barbarian seemed to lack the depth of character found in the books. I really hope that the producers go back to the source material in making this movie. I'm not quite sure who's out there that could take on the role of Conan. Anyone have suggestions who they think should play the role?
I remember reading names but I cannot find it again!
The movie is to come out early 2010 so many things are decided I think!
The first two (three counting Red Sonja) where great at the time they came out, I was already hooked on anything Conan. We actually play the soundtrack when we rp on most Sundays. Am I the only one who would like to see it done in the Sin City/300 style? Truth be told it was my first thought when seeing 300. I think it would give it a more pulp-style feel. Although on the other hand an epic LOTR type take would rock also. I am at a loss however on who should play Conan.

We put the music on for this game!
We are too used to Schwarzy I think!
There is also a new Red Sonja Movie in 2010 by Roberto Rodriguez!
The possible actors are Daniel Cudmore or Paul Telfer!
A dream come true. But this can turn to a nigthmare...
Who will play Conan??? Thats the big question. Thats what worries me. And who is the director?
Thats the two most important questions for me.
Why not John McTiernan(Die Hard, Predator, The 13th Warrior) as director?
good director's choice!!
let's say HHH as conan!!
I have digged some info and, unfortunately, its not looking too good. (but I may be wrong! This will not be the first time!)
What I found strange is why they have decided to retold the beginning of the life of Conan... Conan Begins...
Let's pray Crom for a decent movie!
To answer your questions...
Director = Marcus Nispel (Pathfinder)
Conan = Jason Mamoa (Stargate Atlantis)
Storyline = reboot/origin-story (I'd agree there is no reason for this. Conan IS. He does not need to be explained. R.E.H. never did)
A story I found on the webby concerning the lead role.
forget the past
there's a lot of things to expect in the future whether good or not
you can check if this is good for you [http://www.worldwarcraft-gold.com/
There's not much to live up to with the first two movies... although, I still have them both on DVD.
I say start over again.

I guess it is not all bad. Hollywood has shown its ability to screw up iconic characters in the past. In fact, I am not surprised they did not cast Danny Devitto as Conan. They casted Michael Keaton as Batman for crying out loud. I hope the movie does Conan justice!
I'm watching this with interest but not with high hopes. It'll be interesting to see what happens though...
As for the first movie, I actually think it's a great sword & sorcery movie that (mostly) captures the feel of the world of Conan. Very much like this game, it takes place in Hyboria but it's not about Conan. John Milius did a great job with the world building, but it seems like he forgot about the true nature of Conan who just come across as this kind of empty shell with big muscles.
The second movie is not worth wasting bandwith on.
I agree with you however most of the "reboots" have not been good mainly because its a bad idea I mean look at the operating parameters it leaves you with. So you have to make a movie that follows the original telling but you have to deviate in order to make it an original tale and at the same time make it edgier. True there are some instances where this works such as the new batman and i think this new true grit might have some guff to it but its very fine line to walk.
