Hello I have nobody to play games with that would be interested in trying out Rogue Trader. Nobody. Would I manage to play it alone? any disadvantages besides the social aspect?
single player?
I have skype-roll20 group if you want to join mate, add me in skype: joham.strauss
Regarding single player, I don't think that's feasible. It would be like writing a novel but using dices to see how well the main character goes.

How exactly would one play and GM a game at the same time? Might as well read a 40K novel, at least then the story will surprise you every now and then.

I have no idea how I would do that. One can not lie to oneself after all. I guess I am more interested in creating some sort of story using an existing universe, using an available rule set, than I am interested in playing for fun or progression.
Thank you for your reply.

Thank you for your offer. I'm not really the sort of person who can schedule a gaming session so very well. Things come up, plans change and so forth. Also, I don't own the rule book nor know how to play
Thank you anyway.
I pretty much in the same boat man. Can't get into a PBP game, nor a Skype one due to m schedule. But running with ideas is what I do best now.
You don't have to play the game by yourself, but what you can do is run the story by yourself to see what flaws are in it, and where you can expand at. Meaning, your idea is to have a powerful sorcerous be against the PCs, is in control of a three to fou ships, has a base on a volcano world ripe with heavy metals, and has something the PCs need/desire.
Flaws are: what is the item? Family heirloom needed for RT to fully claim Warrent, family member long thought dead that is close to a PC, relic of an ancient xenon race that is needed to open a secret door in a hidden labrythn, etc.
How did the PCs find out this info: From a rival family member that wants them dead, from a encoded message from a spy, etc.
Where did the enemies base come from? They built it, they found it abandoned, they killed the crew whose owner wants it back for a reward, etc.
Pretty much, you are playing the game by yourself, but ultimately you are creating the story with the background information you need to keep it interesting and enjoyable for the PCs. Hope this helps some.
Heya,
Look for an online group. Play by Post. Skype. Etc.
You can't really play a pen & paper game single player. You need at least 3 players, really, for it to work at all. If you just want to play the mechanics of the game, then just roll characters, set up missions and perform them and if your rolls work out, "you win." But that's not the point of this game or most pen & paper games anyways. There's the story aspect. The social aspect.
If you have a local game shop or book store, I suggest you start leaving postings on their bulletins with an email address and state your interest in finding a pen & paper group looking for more members. You'd be surprised. There's lots of them out there. Book stores always have these things and these people frequent book stores. Also the game shops, like hobby shops and the like, where they sell board games, miniatures, card games, MTG, etc. Stuff like that. You'll find people there too. Put your info out there. And do the same online at forums.
Very best,
