Running into another ship.

By kilgos, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Sure been asked a million times but just want to clarify the rules on this.. On running into either your own ship or an enemy ship..

So say you move your ship a 3 right bank. this would then make it so you land on top of your own ship. I know you then backtrack and basicly place next to it at the point of contact.

So if the two ships ended up base to base, after backtracking. What exactly happens?

I know as per the rules, the ship that did the move A: Can't preform an action that turn, and B: You can't shoot that ship if it was an emey ship ( if still base to base come the combat phase)

Friend of mine that been playing longer was saying if you run into another ship, like overlapping then your ship takes like up to 4 pts of damage.. Is this true? Couldn't find it anywhere ... I know if you fly onto / over a astriod you roll 1 atk dice... But does this happen if you run into another ship? Hope am explaining it right.

He was saying the rule book from the starter box of X-wing is missing some rules.. Looked on the FAQ and didn't see anything on there.

No not at all true. There's times you roll to see if you take damage, or a crit effect might cause damage. But even in those cases it's only ever 1 damage.

Edit: Wanted to double check the FAQ. Even if you were to hit 6 asteroids somehow, you'd still at most roll only 1 dice for damage.

Either your friend is trying to pull something on you, or else doesn't really know what he's talking about.

But you have it all right, it seems you have a much firmer grip on the rules then he does. The rule book that comes with the core set is not missing any rules. It has some rules that have been changed due to errata but that's it.

Between the FAQ and Rule book, which you can also get in PDF format, you have everything.

Yeah, was your buddy only bringing that rule up on YOUR collisions?

As Vandor said - you can crash through six asteroids (in theory) and still only roll damage once. And when colliding with ships, you never take damage, you just backtrack so your bases are touching, lose your action for the turn, and - if it's an enemy ship - cannot shoot at it as long as it remains in base-to-base contact.

This is where Buhalin steps in and clarifies everything I just said and left pretty much correct but a bit vague on specifics, so that he has something to do. :D

And when colliding with ships, you never take damage...

If you have suffered the Stunned Pilot crit you'd take a single damage. But that's still only 1 damage, and because of the crit and not the collision itself.

You're as bad as Buhalin. Nobody can let a good rule of thumb stand anymore. ;)

Someone always has to step in and point out the one exception made for the pinkie or whatever.

I actually try not to do that :) You want to see me pop a molar, let's have another discussion about stress preventing actions where every other post is "Except Tycho!" Yes, we know "Except Tycho!" Cards are exceptions to basic rules, that's their entire purpose - if any discussion of basic rules has to list every exception it gets old very quickly.

In this case you did say "never", though, which is always risky :)

OMG TYCHO CAN TAKE ACTIONS WHEN STRESSED???

I'll be right back - I have some threads I have to go post in!

Oh if we're looking for exceptions I guess we could also mention the other named A-Wing pilot which can shoot at enemy ships it is in contact with. Sorry, forget the pilot's name.

Arvel. His name is Arvel. Show some respect!

@smacks you upside the dome on principle.

Whoa - hold on there. Don't say "always" - it can't always be risky to say never. :D
