"Can I use Skulduggery on the GM?"

By spectre113, in Game Masters

After a session of Edge of Empire, the group has run into a mysterious Benefactor that they owe their freedom and lives to. Having been in a Dark Heresy campaign of mine, they instinctively distrusted this Benefactor. After probing for questions and making only tantalizing progress, one of the players eyed my notebook and asked "Can I use Skulduggery on the GM?"

Obviously the question was a joke, but I promised that player I'd throw the question here on the forums to think of what other GMs thought of the question. Perhaps you've been asked similar questions by your players or something of the like. Or if you want to share your thoughts on the question itself, I urge you to do so in the spirit of which it was asked.

Thanks for the input.

My response to questions like this is, "No, but I am open to bribery."

I would allow it the first time it was asked because it is creative.

Many, many moons ago, my group was playing Toon (I was playing a psychotic murderous toaster with a baseball bat). I don't remember why, but the characters were all on a scavenger hunt in a shopping mall (in between blowing each other up and fast talking the scavenged items from the other players). The last item on my list was something red and all the other characters were closing in to take my stuff. I asked the GM "So you're the animator, right?"

She said yes, to which I responded "Fine, I reach out of the animation cell and grab the animator's red bandanna" as I simultaneously snatched her real life red bandanna off her real life head. It was an epic ending to the game that had everyone at the table pretty much rolling on the floor. Best breaking of the Fourth Wall ever!

Hmm... I can see a new way of getting some extra dice or that nifty expansion you want... Or even an X-Wing expansion... :-D
