Reinforced Shield Generator

By Mormacar, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Is the choosen location for the reinforced shield generator fixed during the installation of the attachment (or further mods) or could it be relocated afterwards?

....like can you put it in the cockpit on initial install and move it into the head during a later overhaul?

That is the place I most want to feel safe...

Location means defense zone (front, back).

Are there any parts changed on the front or back end of the ship (i.e. power conductors) or is only a more powerfull shield generator installed somewhere which provides more power overall for the shields? In the first case the defense zone should not be changeable, in the second case the zone could probably be changed.

I'd be surprised if you couldn't. Pilots and Gunners get lots of opportunities to look cool, so it's a good idea to give the Mechanic as many opportunities to be as useful as possible.

I read that upgrade as just putting in a more powerful generator. So your shields operate exactly the same way, but are stronger.

Is there some possible game breakage being brought up? Because I can't think of anything... I mean I don't think I'd allow it during an adventure, but I see no problem having the mechanic character spend his off hours between adventure tinkering with the ship.

I don't see any reason for it to be locked down forever. Make alterations, even remove the system entirely (if you want to install something else in those Hardpoints). And if the vessel has any spare crew, that being could always use "Angle Deflector Shields" for the same benefit.

Just how long does "Angle Deflector Shields" last, anyway?

That's why I don't see tinkering as a problem, if they need to rebalance them on the fly there's already a mechanic for that. So its not like letting them move the default setting is going to do a whole lot in the big picture.

I'd let the players change it around, but they should have a long stay or effort to do it.
