rogue shadow

By Athelys, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

just curious has anyone created this ship in EoE??

I've considered it, but haven't gone through it, mostly as the ship is so unique that it's really not much use for general gaming. Going by the events of the Force Unleashed games, it's pretty much a macguffin, and unless you're going to hand it directly to the PCs to fly and operate, there's really not much need for stats. At it's core, the ship is a glorified shuttle with a stealth system, meant to deliver Starkiller to his mission drop point so that he could destroy whatever it was that needed destroying.

A piece of advice: be very, very careful about giving your PCs a ship with cloaking capabilities. The potential for abuse is huge. They can go anywhere, blow up anything and everything with planetary-scale weapons and escape unhindered. It can take the fun out of your game real quick.

Could be an interesting thing to stat up for AoR. Something the Rebellion thinks is in existence, and it needs to be captured or destroyed before it goes into full production for Imperial Commandoes.

There's already prior lore for this, though really the only 'critical' stat is how a cloaking system would work under the EotE/AoR rules; stats for that particular starship can be found in the Rebellion Era Campaign Guide (Saga Edition).

was thinking about using it as a plot device but knowing my players they may steal one too. I will make sure a cloaking device is wonky at best...

Could always work out a roll to even activate the device, much like you have to roll to enter "simple" hyperspace jumps. You could even have a threat or despair cause it to uncloak at the most inopportune moment.

Ehh, there's actually an interesting enough existing flaw already in lore: the hibridium-type cloaking device caused the host ship to be just as blind to the outside as everyone was to it! The "conventional" cloaking devices (without such a limitation) that we see in the lore are generally attributed as using stygium crystal-based technology.

And yes, jimmylogan0916, nice shout-out to the conclusion of TIE Fighter there. ;)

This one crossed my desk as a request, but I opted out of it (and the X70B-Phantom) for the time due to needing ideas as to how to handle cloaking.

Now, my approach to cloaking is to simply add setback dice to any sensor check to notice it based on how good of a coating it has for the crystal approach; the "true" cloaking is more of a plot device, and I tend to reserve that for fun things.

Well, after thinking about this, I decided to try my hand at it.

When activated, increase all difficulties to perceive the ship by 3. The system can only be used for short periods of time, as it causes 1 System Strain per round (at the GM's discretion).

While not activated, the crystals within the ship give a setback die on all rolls to detect the ship.

A Note on Customization HP:

Ships like this are always tough to determine how many HPs they had at stock and how many they have left. I figured when it was first built, it either already had an enhanced sensor array (which Juno increased to Extreme range during her initial tampering) or she used an HP to install it.

It also seemed like a few changes were made to the Rogue Shadow after it was brought to the Rebel Alliance, making me wonder if it still had at least 1 HP after the events of The Force Unleashed. Thus my note there.

A Note On Encumbrance:

I am really disliking this setup, as there's a LOT of guesswork involved. I would estimate this somewhere between the 25-40 range due to the smaller size of the ship.
