Beginner Ships

What are some good beginner ships? My players don`t want notfalcon or notslave or the other one, and the book seems thin on usable alternatives.

One of my favorite ships was the Baudo-Class star yacht It is a luxury light fighter with some nice lines.

Here is my stab at it's stats

There is always The YT-2400 (which is nigh on the best silhouette 4 in the book in my opinion), the Citadel cruiser... A ghtroc aka space turtle, a luxury yacht, or you could give them the skipray

The Baudo is pretty cool too. There is also a bunch of other YTs out there if you/they like the correllian industrial look. Or one of my favourites: Maka-Eekai L4000 Transport .

If you want a bigger ship (sil 5), and you have the AoR Beta, the Gozanti is far better than the Wayfarer and costs the same as the Citadel.

If you don't mind unofficial ship stats, I put together stats for a number of "starter level" ships as part of the Gamer Security Agency's Equipment Labs article series. Aside from the price (the majority of these were written before the EotE core rulebook came out and the "can't cost more than 120,000 credits" restriction).

They're all pretty good options in my book, but the AR-37 Paragon-class, L19 freighter, and the YKL-37R are stand-out favorites of the ones I've written.

I've got a few more ships in the process of being submitted to the site.

We used a Citadel. To compensate for all the advantages it has over a YT-1300, we gave it some "quirks" aka the hyperdrive can be faulty (GM discretion/involves flipping Destiny) and its system is old and badly wired, so it takes double Strain when Strain is voluntarily suffered.

A YT-2400 isn't super powerful to start with either, if your players like the Outrider.

I created some stats for a YT-1930 so we could be different, but was also thinking of giving them a Skipray. Personally, I think that not only should you be able to use more expensive ships, but you should also be able to take obligation for more expensive ships (that way you can make more interesting obligation situations).

I gave my players an altered, more civilian version of this-

Replaced the turbolasers with ion cannons, took the torpedoes out and added cargo bays where they were loaded, and gave it stats inbetween a YT-1300 and YT-2400.

I did ponder the potential complications but due to the way I set up the story for them, I actually gave one guy (the Bounty Hunter) his own hand me down Y-Wing as well. Didn't make much sense to me that a somewhat successful character in that profession wouldn't have his own. I'm lucky in that my group really doesn't have a "That Guy" so they are smart enough not to completely split off from each other for too long with two ships.

That ship! I knew I'd forgotten something! I have to find my old magazines now, I always intended to write up some stats for that.

A civilian version is a good idea. How much encumbrance capacity did you give it?

I could imagine it is pretty fast, but poorly handled, well armoured, the civilian version having weaker shield than the full gunship.

Out of curiosity, what Firing Arc(s) do you use for the Port/Starboard Turret-mounted Ion Cannons on your Citadel?

From the ship's art, we thought they should be All.

I gave it 130 encumburance along with 23 Hull Trauma threshold and 16 System Strain. Otherwise, it has matching stats to the YT-2400, since I wanted to it to be on the same level as the Rodian's ship from Beyond the Rim. Oh, and the two Ion Cannons are forward fire only, wanted to give them some options for dealing with rival ships other than just blast to pieces.

We went with Forward and Port/Forward and Starboard allowing the turrets to overlap to the front and leaving a bare backside. Of course, these arcs are with gunners firing them (we added two gunners to crew, dropped passengers to 10 and increased EC to 125).

Yeah it's more and more clear that the rear arc is not a big deal to not have cover for if your Silhouette is under 5.

Oh, fantastic. Thanks for all these ideas. I'll be running a one-shot soon, and I'm new at EotE (though I've played in a WHFRP 3e game) so I don't want to start experimenting too much here. A lot of really good responses, thank you.
