Rohan Deck - Against the Shadows

By Sprenger, in Strategy and deck-building

Now that we have the final adventure pack from the Against the Shadows cycle, I wanted to bring my Rohan deck back to life now that we have some new player cards to strengthen it.

I should say that this deck is intended to pair with my Mono Leadership Gondor Deck. This deck is a hybrid Questing/Attacking deck. Though I will admit it still lacking in the offensive department.

Hero (3)

Eowyn (Core) x1

Eleanor (Core) x1

Theoden (TMV) X1

As for my hero selection, I originally had Dunhere instead of Eleanor but with a starting threat of 29 it was difficult to keep enemies in the staging area without having a light in the dark or pairing this deck with my Lore Ranger deck using the ally to push people back into the staging area.,

Besides Eleanor is such a solid Spirit hero that it is hard to justify replacing her with anything else. Plus she is Gondor so I get the Gondor synergy with my Leadership deck.

Starting Threat: 28

Resources:

My main resource generator is the Horn of Gondor. I make the most of it by using allies that have abilities that force them to leave play such as the Escort from Edoras and The Riddermark's Finest. (Also Squire of the Citadel is a wonderful combo in the Leadership deck). I threw in Spirit Bofur to play him out for free.

I also use the Zigil Miner - Stargazer combo to increase the resource generation but I hope to drop this in the future for a more thematic option.

Card Draw:

Currently there aren't very many options for the Spirit or Tactics player to draw cards. I have entertained the idea of using Palantir as my primary card draw engine but the threat it brings is just too much for me. Also I would have to exhaust one of my heroes to use it and honestly that is the most difficult part about it.

So for now, all I have the Ancient Mathom attachment and even that I have to wait til I'm the first player to get it's benefit. Foe-Hammer is in my Tactics deck so it is unavailable for this deck.

Rohan Synergy:

Right now there are several great option for Rohan event cards. However you can't just simply ignore the Spirit staple cards like Test of Will and The Galadhrim's Greeting. So decided to go with We Do Not Sleep. Not having to exhaust Rohan characters for the quest is pretty powerful especially when Mutual Accord is in effect.

Nor am I a Stranger is a card that I'm still on the fence about. I like the idea of making the best questers a Rohan just so they can benefit from Do Not Sleep and possibly Mutual Accord. This also allows me to play Steed of the Mark on them as well.
