Modified Tournament Style

By Bilisknir, in X-Wing Organized Play

I had an interesting thought about tournament play. At the moment you must play the same squad throughout a tournament, which is fine. I thought it might be interesting to play a more asymmetrical game though. How about each round is 2 battles,

For the first battle Player 1 selects between 95 and 100 points of ships/upgrades/etc. He reveals the hulls, but not the points value, of this squad to Player 2. Player 2 then selects up to 100 points of ships/upgrades/etc. He reveals the hulls, but not the points value, of this squad to Player 1, who then selects upgrades/equipment taking him to a maximum value of 120 points.

Initiative is determined by comparing Player 1 points minus 20 against Player 2 points.

Then repeat for the second battle swapping round the selection order.

The idea is Player 2 is attacking Player 1 and can see the ships he is attacking but not the pilots or loadouts. Allowing Player 1 the last choice of some extra upgrades is to make it a little more balanced.

What do people think about this?

Interested and simultaneously very confused. First off, with 2 matches per round, how long are these tournaments going to last and how long will each round be? Are you advocating allowing player 2 to reactively hate build based on player 1's squad? Perhaps a limited sideboard pool, could be fun, but straight up silver bulleting is not going to be fun.
