Converting ETA-2 F Toy for X-Wing

By hudsonrunabypass, in X-Wing

I came across a couple of ETA-2 Starfighters from the Starwars F Toys range on ebay: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/STAR-WARS-x-wing-miniatures-game-ETA-2-JEDI-STARFIGHTER-perfect-for-convertion-/171180202673?pt=UK_Toys_Wargames_RL&hash=item27db229ab1

and was wondering if anyone had previously converted any F Toy figures for use with x-wing miniatures and if so was it a fairly easy or complex job.

Also does anyone have or know of any ETA-2 ship cards that have been made up?

I always thought that if older era ships were to become part of the game, they would have less impressive stats.... Why bother with r&d cycle costs without any notable improvement in performance?

PS -?

Weap - 2

Agi - 2

Hull - 2 (maybe 3 - Obi and Ani did crash-land them on that genosian cruiser without much damage)

Shield - 0

TIE fighter maneuver dial

Focus, BR, Evade

Astromech, Missile

No idea what to charge for points... I cringe at making them cost less than a TIE

At 10 points that's 20 red dice on a TIE fighter maneuver dial coming at you across the table...

I'd say the Eta-2 would be something like

2/4/3/0 or 2/4/2/1

Something between TIE and A-Wing maneouver dial.

Focus/BR/Evade/Boost

I'd want at least 3 points of def total to prevent a single crit direct hit killing them outright.

Probably 13 ish points for PS1 pilot?

As to comments about older ships being weaker, why? Could just be that attitudes have changed or requirements are a little different. TIE was evolution of ETA-2 as was the A-wing. Both were less "complicated" than ETA-2. TIE was geared for mass production, simplicity (no moving wings etc), and to be reliant on a base ship (no landing gear). A-Wing was to be built in hidden factories from spare/scavenged/stolen components, so again less complicated. In SW universe space combat is thousands of years old so don't expect every new fighter to completely invalidate everything before it.

I like this. I like this a lot.

I think the stat line should be;

2/3/2/3

PS 2

21 points

I have ten of these wonderful models. I think they are in the realm of an A-Wing and an X-Wing. They are older sure but they are also top of the line ships and there should be no down grades for age. Jedi flew in these for a reason, they rock, and are **** good ships.

A 20 year old Mercedes Benz is as good as a brand new Mustang...out there on the wild road.

Those could be cool in a game.. a nice little fighter, and could easily be an imperial or rebel fighter.. maybe have both sides use it..

Right! I have three allocated to my Jedi, and two to my Sith special characters I am working on.

As for the other five models I have, I may convert them...dunno yet.

I was going to share with you Star Brothers of mine here, that a company I trade with often had these models on sale, for $4 a box, but no sooner than I had ordered my last three boxes, the next day they had been listed as discontinued items...

I got all ten of my ETA-2 ships for a happy $45 grand total (including shipping), but these models are somewhat hard to find. If you can get them at $7 each on eBay I.E.: $15 a box with free shipping, then you are doing good.

If you guys are thinking of getting a pair or more, do not mess around, because they are like unicorns...Rare & Wonderful. Now if you live in China... ;) no biggie.

So you have converted them for X-Wing then? From the items description it seems that the hole underneath just needs changing?

I haven't come across this F Toys range before, doesn't seem to be a range that hit Europe maybe, after seeing these I had a scout around for some more and found 1/144 scale Delta 7 Fighters, AT AT's, AT-ST's, AT-TE's, Trade Federation AAT, Naboo N1 Starfighter and Snow Speeders.

the game is 1/270 so 1/150 is almost twice the size they should be.

Ahh..oh :( excitment crushed and time wasted...oh well.

Those are actually 1/144 scale F-toys.. there are some on shapeways and they are the right scale.. small little things they are.

The starship battles ones are 1/270. I have one of the ETA 2's and it is an exact scale match and looks pretty cool.

Like I said I have ten of these, and they look perfect with the FFG Models.

The ones in the eBay link are 1/144.. that's what I was referring to.. I'd not mind getting my hands on some of these 1/270 versions...

Yes sir all you need to do is drill out the slit under the cockpit and you can mount them just fine. The scale clan will scream, but these models LOOK GOOD, and feel right. Sure they are a tiny bit to big, but the forth coming capitol ships from our Friends at FFG are going to be a tiny bit to small. Get over it brothers and have FUN.

;)

I have six of the AT-ST and twelve of the T-47 Speeders, from F-Toys, and they look as good or maybe even (in some cases) a little better than the FFG Models. For AT-AT I went with Micro Machines Action Fleet models. They are the best I have found for fitting the scale and actually looking like the real AT-AT from the films. My Collections are a fun mix of brands, that are about as close as you are going to find...and brothers I looked, and looked, and looked to get what I wanted.

I'm liking the look of the micro machines AT AT, and yeh I'm tempted by the F Toy AT ST as well. That Starship Battles range Englishpete mentioned as well look pretty cool.

Yeah man there are some very very nice AT-AT out there and AT-ST, but I think I found the best. When I looked at the models and stills from the films, these had it all, over the others. When I get to working on the models I have I will post an in depth review with pictures.
