What's the most OCD thing you've done for this game?

By SentinelJP, in X-Wing

My OCD doesn't come out as much pre game. I have all my things organized in my case, pilots, upgrades and damage cards sleeved. My OCD comes out when i play.

-I have a bag with everything i need for my match with the squad i'm playing. it contains the dials, exact amount of shield, focus, evade stress and ion tokens.

-my pilot cards are lined up lowest to highest pilot skill, with upgrades to the right of the card, and damage cards are dealt touching the bottom of the card. and shield tokens are placed over the picture on the pilot card.

-my movement dials are placed on my pilot cards so i don't clutter the play area, and it bugs me to no end when the play area is littered with movement dials and templates. if it was my way the only thing on the board would be asteroids, ships and the tokens.

- when my ship dies the damage cards and upgrades are stacked and placed on the pilot card, then that ships dial on top of those, then that ship is on top of all of that. so i don't have all this crap scattered about getting me mixed up.

it's just things that are second nature to me. to keep things clear so i can focus on whats going on, on the board.Clear area, clear mind.

I’m all OCD about not losing any tokens so when I lost a set of #No. 1 ship id tokens I thought I was going to go insane. I still can’t find them. Even though I have two other sets and hardly use them It bugs the heck out of me not being able to find them.

Oh I do my target lock tokens the same way.

Finally got around to posting these pics of my card dividers. I split all the upgrade cards evenly between the Rebels and the Imperials, with the exception of things like Astromech or Bomb upgrades which are faction specific. These pics are of the Rebel's cards (hense the red rubber bands, the Imperials have blue).

Slick!

:)

We could illuminate an xwing by casting it in clear resin with a light source inside. Just paint over the parts you don't want lit. The power source can be in the base.

Having tried this, it's one of those things which sounds great on paper but in execution is far more trouble than it's worth. First of all, one big hurdle is that clear resin usually requires you to heat the mold while it's curing, and if it's got sensitive electronics buried in it then it can give you a really bad day. Also, clear resin is expensive, at least the good kind that sets up hard and water clear. There is this one kind made for artificial plants, but I can't stand working with that stuff; way too many bubble produced to be useful.

A much easier way is to simply drill through the engine can, drill a hole leading out of the engine and into the fuselage, insert a prewired SMT LED and thread the wires through the hole, then thread all four wiring harnesses through the mounting point and glue the wings to the fuselage.

um probably buying anything that i can make into a mat for the game!! as long as its cheap..lol

stuff i have/am using..

Neoprene sheet.. got off Ebay... cheap works pretty good, color is kind of grey.

Foam sheet.. got from Micheal's craft store.. works great cheap too solid black smooth texture

folding foam board.. got from walmart.. cheap solid black, doesnt roll up, but its light weight..

Corsec Engineering mat. not cheap but nicely made. however i am just not a big fan of cloth/felt mats, however i am going to affix that to the neoprene sheet i got from Ebay, . So yeah i am pretty OCD when it comes to mats..lol

We are flying a campaign where each person has there own ship. I had to paint my own, invent my own pilot and background and have him be a Gamorrean called Ham.

Has absolutely no impact on our campaign, but his history and background is absolutely necessary right?

So are the warhog decals right?

I have 2 game boards and 5 vinyl 3x3 mats. Started making asteroids out of foam, and now I'm trying to think of other terrain to make

Derelict ship hulls from previous fights? Rusted out freighters? A massive icy comet? Satellites? The sun, to scale?

I think I may need to go find this.. where did you get it from, Art store or hardware??

Originally I got them at Lowes but they stopped carrying them but Bass Pro has some just like it.

cool.. thanks..

For me, probably a toss-up between buying two extra Lambda shuttles so I could run my 4x AdvS B-Wing build, OR, driving to every Barnes & Noble in the state when the wave 1 and 2 stuff was out of stock everyplace, picking up some hard to find ships. I swear I got the last Interceptor in the state at that time.

Does this count?

The death star also turns into the trench but that tables too small.

I forgot to put out my 4 hawks as well. Also got a regional badge, season 2 medalion, and bunch more acrylic tokens.

Oh and the death star is not even complete, im planning to do another section for the full 3x3, more if the play mat size increases with capital ships!

It looks like a Borg cube.

No, the borg cube is on the other side of the room. ;)

I've also sleeved Every. Single. Card. Even all the Boost Action and Bomb & Ion Cannon Instruction cards etc.

Oh good. I thought it was just me with the instruction cards. I actually refused to play until the card sleeves came in.

Its in sections, theres 2 main surface sectins 3 feet long and 1 foot wide, and then theres 9 pieces for the trench, i am looking to do another 3x1 section for a full flat mat surface

I'd meant to post a comment on your thread when I saw your work. **** nice job there! Have you had a chance to run a game on it yet? How do you deal with the varying surface levels and obstructions, such as the ridge running down to the prow of the ship?

Again, love it!

No, It is still a mini-virgin. It hasn't had a mini on it, let alone a game played on it yet. I want it all painted and done before any games are played on it. I'm sure the first game will leave dents in the surface from dice being rolled... so I want it pristine for at least 1 game. height is abstract in X-wing... so basically, If you have your TIE for example on top of the bridge, and you want to fly 'down' to the top of the deck... just place an empty base (roughly) lined up on the deck below the actual location of your ship, measure from the empty base, place ship from on bridge to where the measuring ruler ends. We only have a small local group, so there shouldn't be any major issues with fudging placement of bases, I hope. The ridge running the length of the nose is less than 1cm high and wide. One would hope, again, that it wouldn't prove to be too much of a problem.

Cheers

Yeah the dice could cause some damage. It would be cool if you were able to somehow make the bridge of the ship fold out into a felted dice tray, it would protect the board and prevent accidentally knocking miniatures around.

I also went a bit overboard with the Battlefoam custom tray maker. Designed 6 trays including 2 spare ship trays. Was really "retentive" by adding overlapping shapes on each ship for easier finger access, and also adding extra 1/4" to many shapes for sleeved cards and large bases that just don't fit the standard shapes. Even submitted two pages of tracings for the Galeforce 9 asteroids. In addition to adding extra shapes for easier access, I designed some space-saving shapes to allow for vertical placement of A-Wings.

Also ordered acrylic movement templates with the quote, "I Don't Know... Just Fly Casual," and other markers as well.

Just sent my order in last night so I can't wait to see the final product when my 720 bag arrives, complete with a name tag reading, "Ludicrous Speed... NOW!"

Here are my custom tray designs... Note that the red color reflects the extra shapes I overlapped to enlarge or add "finger holes." Each shape is still the proper minimum distance from every other...

I created a spreadsheet to analyize cost/point/strength of each ship in relation to the others in their unit, creating 10,000 point armadas for both imperials and rebels. Then worked backwards to price and section out what to buy when in order to keep my entire set equally useable at 100 point intervals in the grand scheme of a structured buying plan... and then I applied the entire process to something work related in order to report the time and charge enough to fund the units... lol.

I also felt it necessary to make my own little line drawings of each ship and layout battle formation of each unit grouping... mostly to get the satisfaction of seeing the armada I want to command in the future.

This is sort of anti-OCD... A friend who I play against is a bit OCD. So what I do, which may be considered dirty pool by some, is if I have say 3 X-Wing Rookies, I number then 5, 8, and 13. Drives him nuts.
