My friend and I are playing. I have Luke with R2d2. I selected a green movement to get a shield back. When I revealed my dial, I ended up running in to the base of another ship. Does my maneuver still count as executed and do I still gain a shield?

Yes you get the shield back. "Execute maneuver" is a step in the activation phase detailed on page 7 of the rulebook. Whether or not you travel the length of the template, the maneuver is still executed.

Not directly. The FAQ covers what happens when you use R2-D2 and hit an obstacle or a Mine. But there's nothing in there about this.

Off-topic, but it's a very subtle timing thing.

The Prox Mine is the easy one - it's "When", R2-D2 is "After", so the damage from the proximity mine comes first.

The obstacle rules are strange, though. Basically, when you overlap an obstacle it says to finish your maneuver as normal, then check for the damage. So the damage check for an obstacle isn't actually triggered by the overlap - instead, it basically rewrites the steps for the rest of the activation phase. This lets R2 react to the maneuver before moving to the next step, just like Night Beast's action/stress.

It's a very strangely-written rule, but the difference does come from the rules pretty directly.

Vanor: I tried to acknowledge that, which is why I admitted it 'kind of' covers it. I guess my point was that since the FAQ mentions two situations where even after you hit something you still regain your shield, that it was probably safe to infer there wasn't a situation that comes to mind where he wouldn't recover the shield.
