Star Wars X-Wing Rebel Transport box.

About the scale guesswork

The scale of the capital ships is 1:500

Medium Transport is 18 cm in length; Background says it's 90m = 1:500

CR90 is 30 cm in length; Background says it's 150m = 1:500

How are you getting 18cm... If you look at the picture it is at least 2 large bases and a small which would make it at least 20cm. I think probably 22cm as I think it has a slight overhang and the gap between is a bit over a small base.

going by the box image with the x-wing, I would go for 18.5 perhaps 19cm accounting for a bit distortion. Since I have seen only angled shots up to now I will reserve my final estimate until a better shot is available. ;)

"This is transport Freedom; how many shuttles are there Green Squadron?"

"This is Green 4. Looks like three Imperial shuttles... they seemed to have wiped out Gold Squadron before we arrived!"

"Acknowledged, Green 4. We're adjusting engines to ramming speed."

This sounds like one of my engagements. Three Mystical Void Mantees are not to be scoffed at. :)

... your lack of faith is disturbing ...

The image above is delusive. Take a closer look on the pictures taken from the real model.

its 18 cm and 30 cm .... scale for epic ships is 1:500

Use your brains: A lenght of 19,5 cm would result in a scale of 1:461,53846153846153846153846153846

Can you tell me why FFG should want this?

There's too much "fish-tailing" with these longer ships using that approach. Whatever they come up with will address that to give a smoother turning radius.

This is going to be an issue with the large ships no matter which of the bases they use. If the tail doesn't swing, the nose will. Anything as rectangular as these things is going to create a lot of distance out of any rotation.

If I had to guess, I'd say that the new templates will give banks of less than 45 degrees - possibly as little as 15, but 30 seems more reasonable for gameplay. The smaller rotation will minimize the swing regardless of where it's centered.

Ideally a pivot in the middle would leave the smallest sway on both ends, but I can't think of a way you could pull that off with a template.

This sounds like one of my engagements. Three Mystical Void Mantees are not to be scoffed at. :)

What? Noooo, that's silly, guy! I wasn't deliberately thinking of a squad I'd love to crush with this thing, honest! :3

That's a dirty lie. All of those shuttles are unarmed and are carrying vital medical supplies. To sick orphans. And kittens. And other things you rebels care about.

"Transport Freedom, my scanners show the shuttles haven't jettisoned their supplies as expected... we don't have ion guns to shut them down. What should we do?"

"Alright, change of plans. Green Squadron, try to lure them closer to us so we can engage our tractor beam. Be careful: they must have serious firepower if they were able to shoot down the Y-Wings..."

"Copy that. Engaging with evasive maneuvers."

im guessing we might see a new type of shield generator - perhaps a new shield token that can only be effected by crits?

Either that, or shields assigned to specific bits of the ship. There needs to be something, anyway.

Just giving a ship 1,873,254 shield tokens will get annoying and boring - the shuttle is about the upper limit of durability one 'thing' should have without any possibility of criticals or similar, and handling that many shield tokens in one stack will get annoying.

The (vague) description of the power rules means it may be possible to get disabled shields back.

That said, 'crit only' shields can cause problems when interacting with some weapons which should be good at strafing light capital ships (I think the heavy laser cannon, for example, can't cause criticals?)

... Just giving a ship 1,873,254 shield tokens will get annoying and boring ...

Yeah, that would be annoying to have to chew through. But it would help explain why the box is so big. :)

... but there are weapons, skills and abilities that actually give a higher chances score a crit - these will come in handy then.

Just imagine: Proton Torpedoes were designed to attack large (I mean laaarge) ships. Every Proton Torpedo has a good chance to produce a crit. And this would fit.

Maybe the shield generator takes 3 crits to be disabled and without the shield, also normal hits can do damage. And maybe there are droids aboard trying to fix the shield generator ... there is a large variaty of possibilities.

I'm sure FFG chose them wisely for max fun ;)

I really really doubt there'd be crit only shields. I see regeneration/repair to be a much more likely possibility.

On movement of the large ships. I kinde think we might see separate forward and turn movements. i.e. move forward x then for turning put a curved maneouver template on the side of the front base and go from one side of the base to the other.

It would even make sense for that kind of ships if they were able to turn at place (like a tank) and then move forward (or even backwards?)

Hopefully i think that there will be different sections of the ship that can be attacked, maybe side firing arcs, think each system would be targeted seperatly like on starwars battlfront. as for the maneuvre, turning on the spot, have tried movement using two large bases, forward one moves the ship too quickly, if the bases were mounted side on you would use a 1 foreward banked template on oneside of the front base to the other so it might slew the font of the ship round but the rear would not move much, as for the sheild re charge reckon it will be a card with a range limit, limited uses per turn. just a thought, also wonder if there will be new dice, eg double hit symbols.
