Quick Question about soak

By Damack, in Game Masters

On page 31 of the core rule book it talks about soak value. Does soak go for every attack incoming?

Say Pash is attacked by a droid for 10 damage let's say his soak value is 3 so he will receive a damage of 7.

Now on his next attack against him does she still have a soak of 3 on every attack against him?

I couldn't find anything on it. I would imagine that it is always there but want to be sure.

Yes. Soak is per attack.

Great thanks...

And soak always applies unless the attack has a special rule or something that specifically allows it to ignore soak.

Cool I didn't know that. Thx again

It should be specified that soak is per hit. Things like autofire or dual-wielding may allow you to hit a target more than once in a single attack. The soak applies to each hit separately.

True.

So I should think of soak as armor in an MMO it's always there and every hit it takes away a set number of damage due to it's protection.

Pretty much.

Or like DR in most D20 games.

Soak of damage has a long history in Table Top games. (World of Darkness as an example). Just want to head off the MMOs are not RPGs haters.
