Something like this is on my to-try list, but with 1-2 Academies. Those PS1's rock.
Imperial Swarm mixed with Bombers
This will be the next 2 lists to run:
Howlrunner
Acadamy Pilot x 5
Scimitar Squad pilot + Advanced Proton
100pts
No guaranteed initiative for swarrm vs swarm, nor protection on Howlrunner, however I'm curious to see what people will do once they get target locked by that Scimitar.
Or here is one for fighting swarms:
Howlrunner + Stealth Device
Academy pilot x 5
Scimitar + Seismic Charge
99pts
Just trying to add that bomber flavor to the swarm in some cool ways.
Love the idea of mixed bomber swarm. Had great success with this yesterday;
Howl plus Elusive
2 Scimitar, one with sc.
2 x Obs
1 Alpha Squint with SD.
Killing Ibtisan with the seismic charge was one of the sweetest maneuvers Ive pulled in this game!
The Alpha probably isnt worth the points, thinking to swap it for Backstabber, put the SD on howl, and add a charge to the other bomber, or maybe a proton bomb if I dropped the Obs down to APs.
I'm not keen on too much ordinance on the bombers, I think its best to stick with the howl lead swarm and use them as durable peices at the center of your formation. Bit easier to fly than 7 tie swarms. I do like the list mentioned above with 3 named ties and 3 Scims.

Tried this one on Vassal today against an ABXY Hawk+Ion. I set up along one edge, as did my opponent, which was likely his downfall. I set up Scim+APT off to the side, as did my opponent with his Hawk. The Scim got in Range for 1 engagement, then was ionized for 2 rounds. No APT was fired, since I was waiting for TL + F. However, this was not too much of a bother since the 6 ties had the mastery of the ABXY group, taking out the Bwing in the first round, where most of my Ties were in Range 1, Howl at Range 2, so a tough choice on who to target. Howlrunner helped keep the dice in my favor, though I SHOULD have lost one tie to the XBY with PS2. Would have been a different game then.
All in all, the Scim+APT did its job of taking some of the heat off of the swarm. That extra gun on the Hawk could have taken out the one Tie before it got to fire, or it could have mucked up my formation for the following K-Turn. I cannot say I wouldn't have used the Hawk in the same way, the APT would have scared me too! However, I would not have outright jousted without making the swarm fly through some asteroids.
I'm not too sure how I feel about no defensive upgrade on Howlrunner. That APT HAS to bait some sort of gun or I could lose Howl before my PS1 Ties get to shoot.

Those changes would make an interesting squad.
The next squad I'll likely try that uses 3 named ties and 3 Scimitars is:
Howlrunner + Stealth Device/PTL
Dark Curse
Night Beast
Scimitar X 3
100pts
I like Night Beast over Backstabber when I know I won't be breaking off any Ties as flankers, also lets me use Stealth Device/PTL instead of Elusiveness. Night beast works well in a squad, getting to use F+Evade with just a green maneuver. Also, when the squad breaks up, Night Beast lets you do a 2-bank, barrel roll out of an arc, and still have a focus for offense,
If Howlrunner is in the back of the squad, the opponent should be hard set to choose which Tie to target first. All have high defense. I suppose I'd choose one of the bombers up front to hopefully sneak in a bad crit before it shoots.
I'd consider lowering to 99 pts in some way for initiative...Could make sense against Rebel Swarms, but not against Tie Swarms.

Personally I try to keep the bomber in swarm to take the heat of howlrunner, but pleased you had success.
Looking at this squad how about
Howlrunner + SqL
Gamma + APT + SEISMIC
Black + draw fire x2
Academy x2
swampthing, thanks for the idea with the bomber+apt mixed in. I'll probably keep him in the mix next time to see what happens. I think I mostly was running out of space with asteroids and had a good line from an angle. Your squad will try next, more PS4 seems fun.
I try and set to the newbies in a pattern likw the 5 side of a die and howlrunner off to one side and then fly her at the side she is needed most.
AP. AP
Ga
BS. BS. Howl
didnt format properly but sure you get the idea
