New Suns of Fortune Preview

By Yoshiyahu, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

In case anyone missed it on the main page, (because I did, at first!) FFG has put up a new news item/preview of Sons of Fortune here.

Looks interesting!

It does! Very interested in this!

Brilliant stuff!

That pdf is up to be tested asap!

'I WANT MY GIANT SPACE WEASELS AND I WANT THEM NOW!!!!!'

But srsly, this looks great. Loving the 'modular encounter' things, perfect for a sandboxy game like ours.

Indeed, it looks really promising. Especially for GMs that love sandbox campaigns and from what I have seen so far, this one looks rather promising. And I suppose this kind of a thing is especially wonderful for PbP forums. Keep the fluffy stuff coming, FFG!

Sandbox style play is something I very much prefer!

Also, dude, change your avatar! That one has got troll on it...

Not sure what or rather whom you're talking about, but I did as you suggested! I am sorry if I have offended you in any way, but let us return to the topic. Although it is not related to the preview, what do you guys think: Will Corellians have different stats than humans from EotE Corebook?

Uh…I don't know why you think you can drag your troll war into every thread. It's as bad as the guy you're referring to (who shall remain nameless) and just as trollish.

@VarroZinn, you didn't need to change anything. Some people don't know how to set boundaries on their mob behaviour.

Curious about this myself. I doubt the stats will be different, but they'll probably get different starting skill options or free Talents.

Actually, I think that Vader avatar is kinda cool, and I'm Alliance 4 Life! :)

Anyway, I don't think they'll have different stats, personally. But heck, I'm making them near-humans like the Chiss anyway!

I want something different to a whole planet of people cosplaying Mr Solo :)

Uh... I don't. Really don't actually.

Loving the idea of these modular encounters. That'll never get old, and as a sandboxer myself, I prefer that to some published adventures that I might look at and say, "eh, that's not for us" (if I still had a game group, that is. :P).

Nice I like what I see so far.

the modular bits should be fun. i like how they can be put into different adventures or "sandboxed." they should also make good food for thought for spin-offs.

I think the addition of the modular encounters also serves to further push the idea of narrative gameplay. As a system that is similar to other newer games (Numenara to name one), but vastly different from the current crop of rule heavy, combat ridden systems, FFG looks to be providing constant examples of the different ways we can expand our horizons.

These are essentially random encounters that will flesh out the setting they are wrapped in, and also give us more ways to make this system work even better.

Can't wait!

Love it, just want to have it NOW!!! LOL.

Glad you guys are excited for the Modular encounters. I only wrote two of them, but the book was great fun to work on as my first official FFG product.

That means it's a definite for me! :)

Just read through the Taming the Dragon teaser. Just made Suns of Fortune a must buy.

I can see this swoop race being easily adapted to sky hoppers in Beggar's Canyon on Tatooine, pod races, and any number of planets in the galaxy. If the other eight mini-settings are equally useful this book will be a real treat. The race took me back to all those 1950s car race scenes.

This is exactly the sort of stuff I like to keep ready when I need either a filler encounter or my players have gone in a completely unexpected direction and thrown things off the rails. Great fun.

Here's hoping my local retailer can get a copy of the book. Really want to make use of the material. :/

I'm sold on the what! Now I just want to know when?

Me too! I was hoping it'd come out before Christmas (good present that you could use to bribe the GM, if you're a player), but seeing as Enter the Unknown has just come out, I'm supposing it will come out afterwards. Aw, well, makes a good thing to buy yourself with Christmas card cash when it comes.

It currently says January (and has for some time), so guessing that it won't be out before Christmas is pretty safe.

I picked up my copy of Enter the Unknown yesterday and was very pleased with what I got out of it. This however, Suns of Fortune, is what I am really looking forward to. The modular encounters and speeder racing will be a great addition to my groups campaign.
