Beyond the Rim - Players being Players

By GreenGhola, in Game Masters

Greetings all, I have a fun ableit odd quandary that I thought I would get some opinions on in regards to a Beyond the Rim campaign.

Some brief background; not new to roleplaying games but I decided to start with EotE as my first GMing experience and I really love it so far. My players are currently mid Episode II of Beyond the Rim, more specifically they have just located the front half of the Sa Nalaor and are about to explore it next session. I have for the most part followed the basic outline of the story, adding a few bits here and there to either spice up the action or make the game move more smoothly.

So ...my players like to sometimes do the unexpected (who doesn't?) and being the untrusting bunch decided to hurl IT-3PO's head in a river after he demanded a little too much information. Now my question for any of you that have read/ran/are running this story, what sort of repercussions might you introduce as a result? As he seems a fairly important segway to what's coming up I feel like things should be made...a tad more complex for them now. He did manage to activate his homing beacon however before literally swimming with the fishes.

I haven't run this game yet, but I read it through and plan on running it very soon. IT-3PO was intended to get the PCs into the refugee camp. Its presence was to give the captain and his men pause. Firstly, without IT-3PO, the captain is going to have a more difficult time trusting the PCs and believing that they work for Reom. He might be more willing to believe the Rodians now (if your PCs haven't already disposed of them).

The captain might even find IT-3PO's head washed up on the river bank and IT could tell him that the players decapitated him!

This. Is. Pure. Gold. Well, at least when it doesn't happen in my campaign. ;)

I think kaosoe had it right. Play up the paranoia and desperation of the survivors and let the Rodians become bolder and more persuasive.

I am debating this option, mostly because when the players threw his head in the river, they had also attached it to a hunk of dead critter for increased chances of something eating it. I did have a thought...sort of altering the story as written but putting increased importance on IT-3PO himself in order for all the factions (players, Rodians, Imperials) to go on some sort of scavenger hunt for his head, with them all taking potshots etc at one another as they each try to get to it first. His internal homing beacon still active of course to give a clue as to where whatever ate him is now at...

I love making the PCs actions complicate the plot. It adds excitement, and the players know that their actions are affecting the world they are in. I encourage this idea.

As do I!
