COMING SOON! THE UNOFFICIAL X-WING GALACTIC CAMPAIGN

The war for the fate of the galaxy must be fought sector by sector, planet by planet. The Unofficial X-Wing Galactic Campaign (UXGC) provides players around the world with a way to strategize and propel their favorite faction to overall victory.

CAMPAIGN RULES

Joining the campaign is easy. Whenever you play a game of X-Wing, you and your opponent choose a system to fight over. (See the game map. Each hex represents a system.) You may choose to fight over any system, even if it is wholly owned by either faction. If the players can't agree which system to fight for, flip a coin and the winner decides.

Large Campaign Map: http://www.outworld-studio.com/xwing/jpg/uxgc-s01w01.jpg

Play any scenario you like, as long as both players (or teams) agree that the conditions are fair for both sides. The standard 100-point dogfight is fine, but there are many other possibilities.

When a winner has been determined, use the report form (at the bottom of this post) and submit your results. You can submit your results in any of the UXGC threads and forums around the internet, or by email. You only need to report your results in one of these locations. Duplicates and incomplete forms will be disregarded.

This campaign is scheduled to run for 4 weeks. At the end of that time, the overall faction will be determined. Results will be calculated and the map updated on a weekly basis. A faction's score is based on the total value of connected systems under its control. That is, your faction only scores points if it controls two or more systems connected by a spacelane. Each sector has a value (from 1 to 3) that indicates its strategic importance, and the difficulty of winning control of that system (or winning it back).

There's no limit to the number of battle reports you may submit. If you play multiple battles with the same players, squads and scenarios, you may make a single report showing the total number of wins per faction (example: "2 Imperial wins, 1 Rebel win").

Tournaments and other gatherings are a great way to quickly rack up a lot of battles in this epic conflict. Event organizers are encouraged to take part in the UXGC or adapt the idea for their own use.

If you have any questions or suggestions about ways to improve the campaign, this is a good time to sort those things out before the campaign begins on December 1st, 2013. This would also be a good time to "register" your interest.

Thanks for checking it out!
Dave (DagobahDave)

LIke the idea. Thats alota games played to get a final number though. and Does it have to be a scenario or can it just be Imps vs rebs?

Thats alota games played to get a final number though.

That's the point! :) I'm hoping for a lot of game reports.

I suppose there should be a tiebreaker rule, so here it is: If the faction score is tied at the end of the scheduled time, the campaign will be extended by 1 week.

and Does it have to be a scenario or can it just be Imps vs rebs?

You can play any sort of scenario or mission, including the standard 100pt dogfight setup. What's most important is that both sides feel there's an equal chance of success when they start the mission. Other than that, you can use any sort of mission rules you like.

The campaign has now begun! (We're starting a little early, since everything is in place and we're getting battle reports already.) We'll still have an "end of phase" tally, where special achievements will be assessed. This campaign is still scheduled to run through the end of December, and will consist of 4 phases. Phase 1 has begun, so post your battle reports!

The current state of the campaign can be found here:

BATTLE REPORT

SYSTEM: Seswenna Sector

WINNER: Rebels

DATE: 2013-Nov-25

REBEL PLAYERS: Mike W (Lando), Danny W (Tycho + Red Squadron)

Lando Calrissian + Marksmanship

Red Squadron Pilot + R2 Astromech

Tycho Celchu + Push The Limit

IMPERIAL PLAYER: DagobahDave

2x Academy Pilot

Alpha Squadron Pilot

Howlrunner

2x Scimitar Squadron Pilot + Concussion Missiles

BATTLE REPORT: We used a house rule that allows asteroids to be placed anywhere in the play area, as long as they don't overlap another asteroid. They can be placed out of the play area too, which removes them from play. In this case, the asteroid placement cut off much of the southwest quadrant from anything but the most suicidal of ships.

The Imperials moved forward in a perfect delta formation while the Rebel ships formed a pincher -- Lando charging in from the northeast corner, the smaller Rebel ships attacking from the northeast. But the Imperial discipline soon broke, and Tycho weaved his way into the TIE swarm while Lando's quad lasers picked apart one TIE Bomber and then the other.

The ragged TIE swarm never got back into fighting shape, until there was a lone Academy Pilot left to fend against 3 damaged but ferocious Rebels, and he promptly fled the area. Rebels win.

UPDATE: Imperial forces take the Hydian systems, while the Rebels gain support in outlying sectors.

Phase 1 is nearly complete! We're going to start Phase 2 on December 4th, and try to stick to a phase-a-week schedule.

New Feature - Spacelane Values: You'll notice that some spacelanes now have a number value. If your faction controls the sectors on both sides of a spacelane, its value is added to your faction's score.

New Feature - Fleets: To indicate that your faction has an excess of net wins in a sector (that is, you have more net wins than necessary to capture the sector) a fleet marker will be placed there. Fleet markers are removed when your faction loses control of the sector, and each of your fleet markers on the map adds 1 to your faction's score.

WAR REPORT

Season 1 / Phase 2 Start

As the first week of the campaign comes to an end, skirmishes across the galaxy prove that the spirit of rebellion is strong.

Rebel forces are gaining momentum along the Corellian trade routes, with fleet actions reported near Elrood and Sullust. Along the Perlemian routes, Alliance forces have been launching raids out of Stenness Node and the Minos Cluster.

The Empire has secured its valuable assets in the galaxy's core, and Bothan spies report to the Alliance that the Hydian systems are well fortified, almost to the point of being impenetrable. But among the Imperial high command, there are concerns about the wavering defenses of Commenor and Correlia.

[ Achievement: Rebels have unlocked the "Spy Network" achievement by controlling Bothan Space and received some intelligence as a result, which is that the Imperials currently have 4 net wins in the Hydian Systems. That's a lot!]

The loyalties of the Corporate Sector and Perlemian Systems remain undecided, but both factions have an interest in controlling these key industrial centers. Reports of dogfights in these regions can only signal an escalation of the fighting here.

Perhaps most importantly, the Empire has discovered the location of the Rebels' hidden base. It is a prime target, since it will be valuable to the Alliance as long as it stands.

[ Achievement: The start of phase 2 unlocks the "Hidden Base" achievement for the Rebels. This base adds its value of 2 to the Rebel score as long as it is under Rebel control. It is treated like any other sector on the map, and you can fight over it if you choose. If the Empire ever takes control of the Hidden Base, it will be destroyed and will add 2 to the Imperial score permanently.]

[ Achievement: Both factions ended the round with an unbroken block of 4 or more connected systems. As a reward, each faction received 1 bonus net win in one of the sectors within that block.]

And the battle for the galaxy continues...

(You may need to refresh the images to see the updates.)

A bunch of play reports of questionable merit have been discarded. The campaign map has been updated to show the grand total of 13 battles I'm confident are legitimate. (If you posted your report on a forum or sent me a report by email, then your battle report was legit!)
MAP CHANGES: A spacelane has been added between Corellia and Malastare, for reasons that might become clear later. The value of Stenness Node has been raised from 1 to 2, as its strategic value in the game actually appears to be worth it.

Phase 3 starts tomorrow (in just a few hours really), and there will be some significant developments. Thanks to everybody who's participated in the campaign so far.

The UXGC has a website now! I probably won't be posting updates to this thread any more, but you can still post your battle reports here if you like.
