Biggs Starlighter

By johnb60, in X-Wing Rules Questions

I am presuming that that if I have any ship at range one of the enemy it cannot be targeted if Biggs is in the line of fire, even if he is at range 3.

I hope I have worded this right?.

Biggs must be within range one of another Rebel ship for his ability to activate. If Biggs is at range 2 or 3 of a rebel ship, the Empire player can target that Rebel ship or Biggs.

If Biggs is at range 3 of the Empire player, but range 1 of another ship, you must target Biggs for your attack. (even if you have target locked the other rebel ship and wanted to fire missiles/torp at it you must use your main guns and shoot Biggs)

The exception to this is if Biggs is out of the Empire ship's arc of fire but the other rebel ship is in it.

Also, if a simultaneous fire situation arose, with PS5 pilots, they would still have to fire at Biggs (citing the above rules and exceptions) until he is removed from play.

Although if your in simultaneous fire and biggs shot first, there would be no advantage in shooting him. Just hold your fire.

Not entirely true - if the shots are going to be wasted at a lingering Biggs, you might as well take the shots and hope for an extra crit to inhibit his return shot. It's a long shot, but a Blinded Pilot or Weapons Malfunction on a dead ship is fun :)

On the original question - yes, if an Imperial can hit Biggs, they can't fire at any other Rebels within Range 1 of Biggs. This often gets phrased as "You have to attack Biggs" which is a little misleading - if Biggs isn't close enough to an enemy ship, you can target it at will. Assuming that he is, though, you do have to target Biggs no matter how good or bad the shot may be, and the standard way to fly him is to try and make shots against him harder - holding him at range, ducking behind asteroids, etc.

Of course, Biggs only applies if you CAN hit him, but that also extends to weapon selection - if you happen to be packing a turret, even carefully placing your firing arc won't help.
