If I have one engine upgrade card can I apply it to my whole squad? My son is using a squad builder and it doesn't ask do you actually have the physical card. He said why not, the upgrade is on the print out. Can't really argue with that logic.

Edit he wants to apply the boost action to his entire Tie swarm

That's called "proxying" and is just fine for a home game. In a tournament setting you are expected to have all the actual cards.

Just to make sure it's clear.

You don't need the physical card no. But you do have to pay the points for every ship you assign the upgrade to.
