Rebalancing unused cards

By Tawnos, in X-Wing

- Exerts pressure on your opponent's decision-making. Especially on a lower-PS pilot (who hasn't fired yet), it can easily motivate an opponent to hold that focus rather than spending it to change that one eyeball to a hit. Just like Ten and the Autoblaster can be about pushing your opponent's action decision towards Evade, Opportunist can influence their decision to hold a token rather than spend it.

Push the Limit is (and hopefully always will be) the gold standard of EPT upgrades. But the comparative uses of Opportunist go well beyond the odds of hit generation.

This is why I'm excited for Opportunist. Does anyone want to see the A-wings or TIE's they are facing suddenly turn into Interceptors or X-wings? Push the Limit is amazing, sure. But Opportunist can play some mind games with the opponent, which is always a good thing in my book.

I do not think that Opportunist is really a replacement for Expose, since they work rather differently. For starters, Expose is based on your own decision, whereas Opportunist is based on your opponent's choice (on whether he wants to keep his tokens or not). Also, Opportunist is a lot harder to use on high PS pilots, so you would most likely still see Han using Expose over Opportunist for eg.

Refocus ladies and gents...

How do you propose a fix to under utilized cards and pilots not do you think FFG should/will fix them.

Lots of threads like getting bashed and off track right now...we better get a wave 4 announcement soon.

the best irl fix for them is to simply leave them in the album

Shaadea: do the math

Did that some time ago. Focus and TL are better of course (+25% on each die instaed of one 50% chance for an additional hit, and no points spent), but it gives you an additional increase in firepower that accumulates with the other stuff you have. Also, sometimes you just need that possible 4 hits on a single roll more than the better chance for 3 hits... :)

It is an amazingly simply fix. Create new pilots and/or upgrades that create great synergies. Is it really that important that each upgrade is an equally viable option for each ship that can take said upgrade? Is it terrible that pilots have extremely small niches?

I'm not to worried about unused upgrades not every upgrade is going to be stellar I'm more worried about unused ships or less useful categories. Some of these can be fixed with modifications or titles to specific ships. Giving tie advanced a title that allows all ps4+ pilots an extra EPT. Giving the a wing a rear fire arc title card. Heck the shuttle can use a rear fire arc too. I like the rear fire arc it still has blindspots. Turrets kind of take away from the idea of flying tactically. It should be rarely used and a huge upgrade. Because the idea of the game should be dogfighting an out maneuvering ur opponent. Those are the only three ships I think that needs a definite boost. If complete categories of upgrades are less then stellar id say give them a niche by releasing a new ship that synergies with them. Say they release an assault gunboat and that ship has a named pilot that reduces the cost of all torpedoes by 1, or all missiles by 1. Basically I think new pilots or titles or modifications can fix perceived weaknesses without breaking the game if done right.

I'm ok with niche pilots and don't mind non-optimal upgrades but some of these aren't getting used at all (advanced) and some aren't really niche, it's just the other options are also bad: naked y-wings. Naked y-wings should tell you something about the effectiveness of awings and hwks at that point cost.

I'd rather see y-wings taken and used because they fill a role rather than just being the best ship available with the points left over.

Those 3 ships are the rebels only under 20 option: better than the other 2 isn't really an option is it?

True but the y wing being better doesn't mean the y wing needs a fix it means the other two likely do. An a wing can use a rear fire arc. (It actually fils the fluff) which will make it better cheap ship without taking the turret from ywing. The hwk I have no idea what they were thinking with both these support ships. They both have issues. The shuttle can be made better with a rear fire arc the hwk needs something without taking over the ywing role of the cheap tough turret ship.
