Captain Kagi and Fire Control System

By tsondaboy, in X-Wing Rules Questions

This came up in a game yesterday.

One B-wing with FCS fired his primary weapon on a Tie-Fighter.

Usually that means that in can immediately acquire a target lock on the Tie, but there was also Captain Kagi in range.

In this case, since Kagi's ability is a "must" and the FCS is a "may" what should happen?

a) The B-wing must lock on Kagi

b) The B-wing may lock on Kagi

c) The B-wing can not lock on since it may only lock on the defender and "must" triumphs over "may".

d) The B-wing may lock on to the Tie and ignore Kagi.

I went with c)

The FAQ answer is, Fire Control allows you to lock onto the TIE.

Q: If a ship acquires a target lock by using Fire-Control System, and that ship is within range of Captain Kagi, is the locking ship required to lock onto Captain Kagi?

A: No. The target lock granted by Fire-Control System must be acquired on the defender. If the attacker acquires an additional target lock, such as from Weapons Engineer, that target lock must be acquired on Captain Kagi if possible.

That should teach me to look at the FAQ first! lol

Yeah. I hope you've learned your lesson well. Go and RTFFAQ first!

;)

Apologies for thread necromancy, but presumably XX-23 S-thread Tracers will work the same way as FCS when it comes to Kagi's ability.

I would think so, yes.
