Beyond the Rim - Additional material

By daysanew, in Game Masters

So my players just started Act II of BTR. For the most part I'm happy with the adventure, but one of the things that really annoys me is the lack of material in some of the situations. Basically FFG outlines the situation, gives a few examples and tells you to wing it. That's great if you are a GM that can do things on the fly.

Anyway I decided to come up with a few more sites for players to explore while looking for the Sal Nalaor and in addition I am going to create a few new rooms and a map for the bridge area. I want to keep it cinematic, but that doesn't mean I can't have a simple map to help me keep the adventure going along smoothly (lack of maps, something else that annoys me about the material).

Right now I just got a few more sites to explore, I'll update it later this weekend as my next session is Monday. When I add updates I'll post it to this forum is anyone is interested.

Please don't mind the grammar, spelling or bad phrasing, if you want to suggest any changes please let me know.

Also the encounter with the human Galen came to me when I read a forum post by Colourful, so I used the stats he posted with a few modifications.

Also if anyone else has additional material they've come up with BTR, feel free to share, I can even add it what I have (with credit to the creator)

I've been hoping someone would start a thread like this for some time now. Especially for additional things to do and happen on The Wheel.

One thing I mentioned on a previous thread, but might as well as post it here. I have been thinking about having my players find the Ebon Hawk on Raxus prime. badly damaged but ultimately repairable give some time and care. My players would jump at the chance to fix it up and would give me plenty to work with for the next set of adventures.

I'll try and come up with some other concepts and hooks in my spare time. I'll post them here if/when I come up with something.

I'll try to add an encounter my players had on the wheel that they seemed to have enjoyed. It involved walking in on a bunch of smugglers being busted by wheel sec...

I added an encounter in the cantina with an amateur treasure hunting crew…all decked out in brand new survival gear and bragging about their ambitions to find the Sa Nalaor….totally on the fly (So I called the leader 'Rick' because I couldn't think of anything else). Basically Rick walks up to the PCs and blabs about overhearing them asking questions. The PCs were trying to to keep a low profile, so they don't let on they know what he's talking about….

Later they find Rick dead in a utility closet...part of his boot was propping the door open, and they noticed it on their way to the hangar. I wanted to emphasize the fact that the Yiyar clan were shouldering out the competition…and paint them more in a negative light. I think it worked. I'm not that experienced as a GM, so I was pleased with how it worked out.

Awesome stuff! Defenitely gonna come back to this when I start running BtR with my players :D

This is very cool. Thank you guys as always, for sharing your ideas with the rest of us.

I am a passionate gamer, but find it extremely hard to allocate time to expanding on existing published materials, let alone compose my own adventures. It's the usual story: kids, wife, job..."responsibility," (blech) and "reality." (blargle)

Having this resource to draw from allows me to sit down at the table with a feeling of confidence that I will have some stuff to use if the PCs go off OTR. Now I just need my copy of BtR to come in! Judging by the site, I should get it shortly.

Thanks again!

Bart I'll adapt that and add it if you want. I'm also horrible at names, that why one night I sit down and went to http://donjon.bin.sh/scifi/name/#star_wars and created a document of names, male, female some of hte most common aliens and even droids (which is great cause I needed to come up with a droid name on the fly). As I use a name I just put a check mark by it.

From some other sources, the Wheel was a hotspot for Gambling and Prize fighting. The BTR adventure makes it seem like a run down, second rate spacer station, but it is actually the oppoisite.

I kind of like thinking the Wheel is a lot like the Vega strip, glitz, Glamor and a hive of activity.

Not sure what source Mr. Hershey is coming from when he wrote this episode of the module, but I recall it being pretty rundown in the Legacy comics.

Better buy off some of that Obligation. If it goes over 100, you can't spend time gaming until you reduce it!

Added some of my notes on a few of the encounters my party had at the wheel. I also added the Treasure hunter encounter Bart mentioned.

I also added my document of random names I made from the Random name gen.

If I remember correctly, one of possible future hooks presented in the book, is have someone pay the group to capture a wild Nexu. Now I've been reading up on these lovely cats and it seems that, because they are so dangerous to catch, fees of up to half a million credits aren't unsual for a live Nexu. How would you handle this? It seems somewhat cheap to me to let the players earn that half a million, only to have it be stolen just to reduce the available credits for the group. What seems like a decent price for a 'regular' wild Nexu? 50.000'ish?

One way to offset the amount of creds they players get is to the equipment they will need to buy, not to mention having to track down a buyer that is willing to pay good. In fact the cost of the equipment (special cage or a way to keep it in a type of cryo, a special sedative perhaps etc) could be so much that the players have to track down someone to loan them the money. As for how much profit in the end I think it will depend on your game and players.

I'd also have fun with a despair being rolled with a nexu on board their starship >: D

I added an encounter in the starport of the Wheel. Basically, upon arriving to board their ship, they spot a group of pirates & shipjackers who are stealing a ship. They had the choice to leave or defend the theft. They decided to fight but ultimately the ship got away. The PCs may or may not see this group of pirates again.

I also plan on having the PCs compete in The Big Game, which is a gladiator arena that is popular on the Wheel. This should be fun as it can mix combat, gambling and maybe some obligation.

Last thing, is the Wheel is full of companies and enterprises. I have them PCs running some jobs for a cybernetics company (similar to Isotech but different). There are ll sorts of possibilities here as the PCs interact with not so legitimate companies.

I think I want to introduce my players to the blazing chain on this adventure. I need an excuse to have a Chain ship docked at the Wheel, but no one bothering to investigate it. Maybe they made a deal with Wheel security. hmm... If my players bite, it could make for a fun mini adventure. I know my Force Sensitive won't be able to resist.
