Auto blaster

By oneway, in X-Wing Rules Questions

I guess it makes some sort of sense. But excluding the fluff PR article (which I would not count as canon rules info), I think the discussion is still a bit in the air.

I suppose there is a similar question on Sensor Jammer and Kir Kanos (upcoming Imperial Ace). Does Sensor Jammer allow you to turn Kir's Evade created [HIT] to a [FOCUS]?

Sensor Jammer kicks in first, before Kir even spends his evade token. Defender gets to modify the attack results first, before the attacker modifies it.

Sorry, but no... nothing is left in the air.. The newest faq settles it. Evade tokens are just that.. tokens, not added dice. Also the text about evade tokens countering the autoblaster.

The reason I want some clarification is to cover Ten Numb rather than Autoblaster.

IMO the only reasonable way to read it, is that Ten Numb's crit can be canceled by an evade token.

In the FAQ it mentions a couple places Evade Tokens as something different then defense dice. So clearly if they say defense dice, they mean just that, the dice you rolled.

I agree. Evade token, when spent, adds an evade 'result' that is not the same as an evade on a defense die.

I think that as often happens in rule books, FFG wrote a rule that doesn't work the way they want it to.

They want it to work like the example on pg 14, but the wording on pg 12: 6. Compare Results , clearly starts out stating that "players compare their dice results". So if the Evade token doesn't convert to a "dice result", it shouldn't count towards anything in step 6.

Chrome It adds a evade result which you have to compare in section 6 comparing results where else would it go?

Well yes and no. In typical FFG fashion it's more of a muddled mess of contradictions.

The sidebar on page 12 states this: "Add: Some effects ADD a specific result to the combat. To resolve this, the player places a token or unused die displaying this result into the common area."

This clearly accounts for things like evade tokens. But of course here's where things get hinky - they suggest using a token or an unused die , except clearly following this logic and some of the new abilities, you would have to keep track of which dice were actually the dice you rolled, and which dice are simply representing added effects such as evade tokens. Ay carumba.

I mean even the wording of, say, evade token, same page...

"If the defender has an evade token, he may return it to the action token supply to add one additional [evade] result to his defense roll."

So that actually tells you to put the token away and just count the result, even though the sidebar tells you that you can use the token to represent the result. And you can use a die to show the result instead, but now you have to be sure you keep it separate from the dice you actually rolled.

They just really didn't go to any effort to clean up the rules and make them consistent, unfortunately.
