The Great Debate #18: Your Favorite Expansions (Big Box/Small Box)

By Guest, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

Well my only expansions thus far are Dunwich and Pharaoh so I have no choice but to choose them, but I've read some encounters, mythos, items, investigators, ancient ones and heralds of all the other expansions so I'm fairly sure that Kingsport would be my favorite big box expansion once I have it and Black Goat would be my favorite small box. King in Yellow seems promising too. Can't wait to own them all. What about you?

Previous Great Debades

You might be underwhelmed by Kingsport. It has some nice items and allies, but the strategy is a little lackluster - it's mostly just walk around, have encounter. Walk around, have encounter. Repeat. That keeps the rifts from opening, and that's all there is to it.

Black Goat of the Woods is my favourite. I don't have Dunwich, which looks great, but the additions in BGOTW meld into Arkham so nicely it actually feels more like an addition to the base game then a module.

Really, REALLY looking forward to Innsmouth, though!

My favs are definitely Dunwich for its broad components, new rules, and huge difficulty, and Dark Pharaoh for its impeccable theme.

I only have Dunwich and Kingsport. Of those Dunwich is clearly the best, but Kingsport does offer some interesting new stuff. The new investigators, GOOs, and of course the Epic Battle cards are all great. Still, if I had to choose, it would definitely be Dunwich.

Since I restrict myself to the expansions that are available in German, Dunwich's my only big box expansion yet. I don't expect Kingsport will replace it as my favorite, but Innsmouth probably will.

My favorite small expansion is The King in Yellow with its Herald. I didn't like what I've heard of The Black Goat in The Woods so far. It just seems too obviously geared to up the difficulty, but I could be mistaken.

You're not mistaken. The Black Goat herald does some neat stuff (including spreading Corruptions everywhere), but it does do something else absurd...

what was it..

Oh yeah! Every monster surge adds a doom token!
