yeah i though about just flipping it over for an all black mat, its a bit textured but still better than a felt mat!! or one of those PVC maps that ALWAYS have the curled up edges and slide all over the place!!!
So what do you play on?
How is the surface of the mat in terms of slipperiness? I was thinking of picking one up as well but the felt I use currently is very non-slip and I don't want to switch to something that the ships would easily slide around on.
it is JUST like a Giant mouse pad... IMHO the perfect playing surface, and it lies flat and doesn't slide around. doesn't wrinkle and rolls up nicely.. the only negative for me anyway is the awful design on it..lol but i can live with that at that discount price. and the one edge being about 1/2" too short..
I just wish they didn't put the planet on it.. I like a star field, or the nebula look.. but I just don't like the planet.. it looks nice in the overall aspect, and I like the mousepad feel.. I have mats for Wings of Glory that are like that.. if my old one was 3x3 I'd repaint it with fabric paint.. but 3x2 isn't going to help me.. lol
... and the one edge being about 1/2" too short..
That was the deal-breaker for me. Refer to OCD thread.
I took the USPS option - it was like $11.97 vs. $11.40 for UPS.
So here it is in my old playing space (tape lines) 36" x 36"

have to say the overall quality is excellent! It is exactly as you all have said - a thin mouse pad. It's very hearty and will not move on any type of solid surface. I concur that I don't really care much for the plant design, but that's a small price for a quality mat. I just hope they will produce a few more of these mats with a few other designs, like just a plain star field. The storage box is pretty heavy duty, and will probably last quite a long while. I have to say I'm pretty pleased with this purchase. Thank you LukesFather for bringing this mat to my attention, and I hope you get your issues sorted out with MiniMarket.

Played once today to test surface and it's a little slick. Of course, the table that this mat is sitting on is like an ice rink, but the mat surface is like that of thin, tight mouse pad with the full textured rubber backing on it so it will not move. I also love the damping that this mat provides for dice rolling. My table was like a 'dice trampoline', so adding the mat was an obvious upgrade, and the dice stay on the table now.
I think depending on the shag depth on some felt tops, the felt may be a better choice in terms of holding the ships in place. I didn't have a lot of trouble today moving stuff and bumping other stuff, but I think that's just going to happen during the course of a game. I think unless it's a magnetic surface, you're going to get unintentional ship movement from bumps and whatnot.

I like it well enough and I would recommend to anybody who's in the market for a gaming mat. Despite it's length/width issue, I think it will last a good long time. I figure it has to last at least as long as a mouse pad, and I'm working on almost 10 years on my current mouse pad.
Looks good.
ALright, Update on my shipment issues with Miniature Market.
I had submitted a service request last week now. They were very quick in getting back to me, like within a day or 2(i sent it in on the weekend) AND someone from Mini Market PMd me on this forum. I received an email stating their plans on "righting" what had happened. They said they didn't know how that would have happened (shipping without the actual box) and they would look into it.
The way they have fixed this issue is...they sent me a NEW mat, in the box it is to come with. Got it just now, so they turned around and got me it quickly and got me a whole new one.
Miniature Market went beyond what I felt would be the way to right this issue. Very impressed.
A+ customer service!
Very good! Got 2 of those babies now!
I know...I'm working on getting more of an Xwing community at my local game store, and having 2 mats will be nice. The tables they have are not great xwing tables.
same thing happened to me but i didn't get no new mat!! But i didn't complain about it not shipping in its original box... Oh well... maybe they will give me a discount on the transport i just pre ordered... HINT HINT...

I was sizing mine up against some gail force 9 mats today and it looks like they all cheat a bit. I had mine on top of a nebula mat and you couldn't see any edges. On top of ice planet one (or what ever that other one is called) there was *maybe* 1/16" of an inch showing. So looks like they all have manufacturing irregularities from mat to mat.
