How did it went? Are 2 HLC worth it?
Is Heavy Laser Cannon worth it?
I just ran a squadron with three b-wing, two of which had Heavy Laser Cannons. I got my backside handed to me. I also gave each ship the also had the Fire Control System. I think I just spent to many points on upgrades, and didn't have enough ships.
I would agree that you probably spent too much on upgrades in this example because you invested a minimum of 31 each if they were Blue Squadrons leaving you with only 32 more points. In that case you are realistically looking at 1 more good ship or 2 weak ones.
The Blue Thunder list (which I believe it has been dubbed) is 2 Blue w/ HLC and 2 rookies. That's a solid list. The Bloody Daggers list upgrades to 2 Red Squadron X's + 2 Dagger Squadron B's with Advanced Sensors. The Bloody Daggers drops the HLC's and is generally believed to be superior because the PS 4 across the board > the PS2 from Blue Thunder.
That being said Blue Thunder can still be good and the HLC's can shine in certain matchupd but its not Tier 1.
Its all about the synergy of the list. HLC's can be totally worth it but only if you can build something that isn't held back by the points you stick into a given ship. I'm sure some would argue that in the Meta game that HLC'S are never worth it and you should spend your points elsewhere. I still think they have there place though especially if you aren't talking about the meta.

I don't think so. I guess I could have gotten rid of my Fire Control Systems, but I only had three ships each with only one agility dice. Those 8 hits (5 shields + 3 hull) evaporated quickly.
There in lies the problem with the HLC on B-Wings, it is a one dimensional list and limits you to stand off and shoot and pretty much all return fire is going to go through.
I have found that B's with ACS and maybe an Autoblaster work best close in where they don't need HLC's
Never leave your puny rebel hangar with only 3 ships then
Puttin a pair of rookies on the list is always a good and robust idea. Then add your 2B or 2Y or Han or whatever fits your needs for 58 points.
Rookie x 2
Blue + HLC x 2
= 100
sounds fine to me

That would be considerably better. But I have done okay (many people have done well) with three X-wings. But ther 1 agility with only three ships was killer.
But I would definitely say if you're running around using it just for the extra attack die or denying your opponent the range 3 defense die
I'm going to add a bit more of a general thought to this.
When you spend that many points on something, be it torpedos or a HLC, or even a Ion cannon, you better have a plan on how you will make the most use of it.
Torpedos for example pretty much require a TL+F, anyone who uses them often will tell you that without both you will likely feel you've wasted those points.
But that's even more true for something like the HLC, when you spend that many points on a upgrade you really need to have a plan in mind, on how to get the best use out of it you can.
More ships are better.
More ships is not always better. There are many defensive advantages you can give a small elite squad that "if flown defensively" can make it very hard on your opponent to get a hit through. Such as , Kath/hlc/recon/ ptl . You have a pill box with two focus, 1 evade and one target lock each turn. This firespray takes a long time to widdle down.
how about this squad? was thinking of Jonus for rerolls but Howlrunner is cheaper (And better)
Bounty Hunter + HLC + recon specialist (43pts)
Howlrunner + Stealth Device (21pts)
3x Academy Pilot

In general the 1 Spray 4 Ties approach is a good one. I lost only once with it and just because I steered Dark Curse into an astroid and had bad dice in overall.
Its not easy to stay in formation with a large ship, once the battle got hot. I think Firesprays must be able to act and fly freely to unleash their strength. I mean ... its a Bounty Hunter ... not a part of the imperial navy

I like it, half swarm half beatstick.

howlrunner does not let you re-roll your HLC
If at least one of them is on a Shuttle, you can do two HLC platforms alongside Jonus
