Idea for a cruiser (capital) scale game

By Hrathen, in X-Wing

If Attack Wing taught me anything, it was that this same mecahnic can be used for much larger ships.

I have some ideas what that could like like for a game with Star Destroyers.

1-multiple firing arcs: I think you could go with a P/S/F/S system.

2-multiple weapon systems: Ships would be able to fire all their weapons systems in a single round.

3-Lauch Fighters Action: I Imagine the fighters would be tokens that could be put on enemy ships, indicating that they are attacking them or on your own ships, indicating that they are defending them. I imagine something like the way fighters work in AA War at Sea.

3-Armor Stat: The Agility Stat would not go away, but like in Attack Wing most Large ships haev a pretty low agility. You could compinsate by adding an armor stat. Un-like Agility a point in armor would not give you a dice, instead it would automatically cancel a single hit. Some weapon might have an armor penetration tage that mean they ignore armor (all of it)

I imagine A Star Deastroyer might look something like this

Imperial Class Star Destroyer

Weapons

Missile Array - Forward Arc - Attack Dice 2 - Armor Penetrating

Port Turbo Laser Battery - Foward and Left Arc - Attack Dice 4

Starboard Turbo Laser Battery - Foward and Right Arc - Attack Dice 4

Agility : 0

Armor: 2 (I imagine this would really high for the game, but stardestroyers are really hard to kill)

Shields: 10

Hull: 12

Actions: Target Lock, Focus (battlestations), Launch Fighters

Upgrades: Special Weapon System, Crew, Crew, Crew,

It would also have a pretty crappy dial.

By Comparison a Blokade Runner Corvette Might look more like this

TantiveIV.jpg

Weapons

Missile Array - Foward Arc - Attack Dice 1 - Armor Penetrating

Turbo Laser Battery - All Arcs - Attack Dice 2

Agility: 2

Armor : 0

Shields : 2

Hull : 3

Actions: Focus, Evade

Upgrades: Crew

Granted I am not nearly as familure with the specs of a Corvette as I am with a Star Destroyer, I just wanted to show the comparison.

I for one would LOVE a capship combat game. :) Regarding the Star Destroyer, it should be able to keep up with the Corvette, but be horrible at turning. After all, it was able to keep up with the Tantive IV, as well as the Millennium Falcon, but it wasn't able to turn very fast compared to either.

One More ship

Milienium Falcon

250px-Melfal.jpg

Weapons: Quad Laisers - all arcs - Attack Dice 1

Agility: 4

Armor: 0

Shields: 3

Hull: 2

Actions: Focus, Evade

Upgrades: Modifications

Pilot Ability: when you take the evade actin receive two evade tokens.

I could see the Star Destroyer being like that. Even the Falcon had difficulty outrunning Star Destroyers (in normal space anyway)

I just want a super star destroyer miniature... don't even care what kind of game it's attached to......

Did you ever play Wizzard's Star Wars Star Ship Battles. Lame game, but it had Star Wars star ships

The Starter set came with the Superstar Destroyers

I'm sure you could get the model on ebay.

Wizards Star Wars Battles was supremely lame with ships from TIE fighters ( – about 3/4” long ) all the way up to the Excuter (Vader's command ship - about 9” long). Included ships from all 6 movies so there was a little bit for everyone but really crappy game play and scale all over the place. Quality of the ships sucked to.

I just got the SSD from Ebay.. lol.. it's small but it is awesome..

Be prepared for horrible droop in the nose of that model.

Naa.. it's pristine, looks bad ass, but I wish it was larger.. lol.

The Super Star Destroyer seems to be made from a different plastic than the other ships, it is much stiffer. The original starter box had a window that let you see the ship inside the box. They don't suffer from the same problems as many of the other ships of the same line.

Hmm. I'd seen preview images of it before that made it appear very warped (like, "Battlestar Galactica after her final jump"-warped).

I still have to say something about the inaccuracy of that model, though. As I recall, it was way too wide, almost the same angle as the ISD. I love that ship, and they appeared not to have done much research into her appearance other than watch the movie and make vague sketches. This is something I prize in the way FFG is doing their minis.

Larger model .
